    water question

I wouldn't want to leave the water over a day like that, but I'm probably just being too anal. Again, it might be a good idea to sanitize the opening to the bottled water you're gonna use before pouring it....just in case!

    2nd partial mash

Yep! Partial mashes are great like that. Excellent way to phase yourself into all-grain. It can be hard to keep that temp steady, but it's very important. As long as you're within like 5 degrees though, you should be ok for this one. check out...

    long time in secondary question.

cooling it down will really just slow down the yeast. I would personally just leave it conditioning at 70 until you're ready to bottle. :)

What is floating in this stout?

Np! Ya, if you can't ever find nonfat coco in the future, you can just rack it a few times to get the oils out (well, off would be the better word, all the oils sit on top of the brew).

    Priming in Primary

ooooh nice suggestion! Didnt even think of carb tablets!

    Second Brew Day

Are you using a glass carboy or plastic bucket for your primary? I personally haven't noticed any difference if I leave some hops in the wort. After cooling, I will gently take a spoon and just get the majority of hops that I can get (I use whole leaf whenever possible!) Either that or get...

What is floating in this stout?

The cocoa powder that you used...was it nonfat? I had the same problem with a chocolate oatmeal stout I did and I noticed that around the neck of the bottles, sitting on the beer was a tiny tiny amount of oil. When chilled and then poured, the oils solidify and come out lookin like that. At...

    Priming in Primary

Some books will tell you to just add a teaspoon or so of sugar to each bottle to prime. Could be a solution if you want to bottle right away? Just beware of uneven carbonation and/or exploding bottles!:cross:

    Dry hopping question

Last time I dry hopped I just plopped an oz or so of whole leaf hops into secondary. Whole leaf will help with the particles and such. Also having a bottling bucket or something else to rack to would help separate your brew from those things. :)

    New Bay Area Home Brewer

I'm not really sure on this.... but I'm guessing that if it's hard or stiff, then moisture must have gotten in with the malt. Not good! Are they still sealed? How does it smell? I personally would probably toss em. Rather spend the extra cash and make sure I'm not wasting my time on a...

    hop floaties in the bottles

ya floaties and such aren't a big deal usually. Just try to pour gently from the bottle and leave the about a half inch or so left in the bottom. Ensures that you just get good beer and no bottle trub!

    Witbier HoneyWit

So I have this in secondary right now after 12 days in primary. I added some ginger and substituted lemon peel for some orange to this on top of a little more lme. Anyway, I noticed that after I racked it, there were little bubbles coming up in it. Almost looked like carbonation bubbles in a...

    Ab workout while drinking!

lol ya it's not really supposed to burn any fat. In fact I don't think they ever advertise that. The ab belt will only strengthen and tone your ab muscles, but it won't help you lose weight...gotta do cardio for that!:rockin:

    Ab workout while drinking!

Just got myself one of those ab belts that you put on on and it shocks your muscles into contracting. It's pretty damn sweet and you can get it like half price on ebay. Anyway, was rockin a workout and noticed I was thirsty so decided to crack open one of my brews. Took my like 10 minutes to...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Double Chocolate Oatmeal Snout

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply. Out of curiosity, what does keeping it chilled for 48 hours do?

Witbier Austin Homebrew's Blue Moon Clone (AG)

Update: Built my mash tun this weekend!!! However, I went ahead and started this since I had the grains milled a while back and was afraid of staleness by the time I could get a mash tun. So here's what I did: Basically, did 2 separate mashes and 2 separate boils in the same night and then...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Double Chocolate Oatmeal Snout

So I've got this bottled for just over 2 weeks now and cracked one open on Saturday....absolutely no head on it. :( I looked back at my notes and remembered that I used Hershey's cocoa powder (not fat free) and also used 1 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract in secondary. I realize its still really...

Witbier Austin Homebrew's Blue Moon Clone (AG)

So I'm about to start this baby and got to thinking it through and realized that I don't think I have the setup for it. I did an all-grain partial mash style and just mashed it in my brewpot, but the grainbill for that was only 5lbs total. 10lbs would be way too much to try and mash in my...

Not sure if my bottles are capped right!

Sweet! Thanks for the quick reply guys! Ya, most of my caps don't have the indention but some did. To test it, I took a dry bottle and capped it, then held it submerged in water for a couple minutes in my sun tea pitcher and watched for bubbles. No bubbles! Guess I was just worried that the...
