A guy walks into a pub

I like beer. it makes me a jolly good fellow I like beer. it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow (makes him feel mellow) Whiskey's too rough, champagne costs too much, vodka puts my mouth in gear This little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact i like beer (he...

    brewstand build question

Deer hunters have been pondering this question and solved it. There are a few motorized tree stands that operate on the principle of a screw shaft and platform. It wouldn't be that difficult (or cheap) to design and build a platform (on which your HLT sits), connected to a long threaded rod...

Damn, first boilover, or "F&^% DME is sticky"

A boil over is what vaulted me into this insane hobby! I was on my second batch, when the kitchen got a little sticky... wort wasn't the only thing that boiled over... SWMBO declared in a commanding voice "no more brewing in the house!" So I moved out to my detached heated garage, purchased...

Brewing my second batch today - Stormcastle Brown Ale

Nope never done that kit before, but it isn't too far off from a nut brown that I used to brew quite regularly. Only major difference was the addition of 2 lb of dark brown sugar in place of some of the malt... looks tasty though. Be sure to let us know how it turns out!

    no visible activity/ help??

Patience my friend... I've had brews with no visible signs of fermentation for up to 72 hours... it always depends on many factors, such as strain and age of the yeast. Do what the directions tell you, and relax a bit. If it hasn't started in 72 hours, you may have to repitch...

Let me see your BIAB setup!

That's awesome looking! any idea what clearance you have around the outside of your basket? EDIT: HA! for a second I thought I could see your reflection in the bottom of the basket... I was thinking, man is this dude ugly... till I recognized I could see your dog through the screen.... which...

Let me see your BIAB setup!

Yeah, I put the same question to slnies on the phone last night, and he proposed that I simply agitate the mash (either by stirring occasionally or by mechanical means constantly). His idea was that since it's a BIAB set up, there really is no filtering done by the mash - in other words I'd...

4th Annual North Saint Paul Brew Together

We'd be glad to have you! on the facebook event, we've got about 10 attending so far, and I know of another 5 or 6 that will show for sure. Last year we had 22 (I think) and it really made for a fun time. This will be the first year I will not brew on my machine. I'll be a full time host...

Let me see your BIAB setup!

One of the things I'm considering is the basket lined with stainless mesh. My concern with this set up is the void around the side of the baskets with respect to the flow of wort through the grain bed. Fluid tends to take the path of leased resistance, so rather than have the wort flow from...

Let me see your BIAB setup!

I've got a 10 gal RiMS system ...it works great, and I'm not going to change a thing. BUT, I guy can't live on one brew rig alone! My plan is to build a 5 gal BIAB set up, recirculated, temp controlled, electrically heated... but before I venture down that path, I'd love for you all to...

    chiller from hell

Go BIG or go HOME! EDIT: I love it when old threads get dug up... I'm blown away by how much I've learned in three years of brewing. I still use this chiller on every batch, and I've never had to repair it, even though its taken a hard knock or two... I've flirted with the idea of switching...

    How's this for an HLT?

you can boil the snot out of anything in there... the trouble only starts if you heat with no liquid in it. If you need a test to prove it, take an aluminum soda can, cut the top off, fill with water, turn your biggest baddest burner on high.... it'll be fine till it runs out of water.... then...

Wildwest's brew lean-to (my almost dream build)

Nope... you're wrong... just like a house isn't a home till you've lived in it... a bar is only a bar till you've partied in it.... then it's "THE" bar... Long live "THE" bar! Awesome build man

Wildwest's brew lean-to (my almost dream build)

The important thing is that you've got a place to drink beer, stand, and pee.... all at the same time. That my friend, is epic!

    Last semester of college

Brew... plain and simple... keep a pair of pants and a shirt to protect you from the occasional spray of hot wort on brew days... sell the rest of the clothes and buy more beer stuff. Go neked every where else, carry cold homebrew with you.... nekedness will get you noticed, homebrew will get...

Pest Control - finally got the vermin chewing on my hops

Thumper got thumped... I noticed some damage to the low portions of my hops along with something digging and attacking the root system... then this morning I noticed the little gray fur ball having a meal. I baited the back yard with a hand full of mixed nuts, set my bow just inside the...
