    IPA Brewday

Your starter size should not be set in stone. Use the yeast pitching calculator from mrmalty.com. It allows you to put in the age of your yeast, how your pitching it, etc. A 750ml starter with 4 month old yeast will not produce the same beer as a 750ml starter with 2 day old yeast. I know I'm...

If it COULD go wrong, it DID

Just had to look those words up. Not sure what kind of music that is but if they use those words, they're alright by me. Well, being completely hungover didn't help the constant problem solving I had to do. Good news is that she's fermenting like crazy. The blowoff water is bubbling like 8...

+1 I make it a point to use shenanigans, debauchery, and Tom Foolery frequently. Tom Foolery is my favorite.

The first one punctured my fingers often. That one cruched from my mash paddle. That was my fault. You're right. This one was a heck of a lot softer too.

I've been ashing at 1.3 qts/lb. I need to look into rice hulls AND support tubing in the braid.

This is why I love this forum. I would have never thought of it. Thanks again after 6 hours, she's got a couple inches of krausen. Hell, the Star-San hasn't even fallen all the way yet. Almost no lag with this WLP005.

Yeah, I cleaned it up pretty good. Course the wife saw some shiny wort in the crack between 2 of the tiles. Oops. Dogs LOVED it. I hardly had anything left to clean up. :) You will be the first to try it for sure!

There was no support in the braid. I may need to look into that for my next one. Thanks for the t shirt tip.

Wow, that sucks man. Especially about the debit card. Thanks for the congrats. :) I DID learn a whole bunch. First thing...I don't like steel braids anymore.

I don't post much but we figured this was "post worthy." And a big PROST to thorongil (glad to meet you by the way :) )for his help with most of my pre-boil madness. Ok, so I got completely hammered last night and still got up at 7 this morning to brew the Black Nipple. Hangover city. This...

for now, I'm starting with 4 kegs in a full size fridge. If I ever get to 6, I may have to move her outside. :)

    CO2 Bottle Placement

    CO2 Bottle Placement

I'm building my kegerator over the next few days. I have all the parts but I don't know if the CO2 bottle (5lb) should stay OUT of the fridge or IN the fridge. please Help Thanks Mike

Extra wort after the sparge. What to do with it?

Hell, try to store it in a sterile environment with no yeast and you've got some starter batches. :)

    Water analysis and Carbon filters

JUST a carbon filter in it? Shouldn't dick with the other numbers at all, then. Just chlorine, chloromine, nitrates, and nitrites. I added a filtrete in-line filter under my sink and only add 5.2 Stabilizer. Said and done. :)

    Lagering??

I was just listening to a show with Dan Gordon. He was suggesting a week in the primary at your ferm temp, rack to a secondary for another week off the yeast, then rack to a third vessel (he mentioned a corny keg). 2 weeks at 4°C then drop it to 0°C for 4 weeks. Says the 3 vessels get more...

Making my way to grain brewing...

After listening the the Malt Analysis brew strong show, I'm thinking the protein rest is unwarranted unless you're using wheat, to be honest. Even then, they only recommend 15 minutes. I personally will probably never direct fire my mash, although many others do so with no problems. I like...
