20g Single Tier Brewery - Austin, TX

Its an awesome set up. I'm sure someone will come a long who wants it. Just be patient for as long as you can. You could always consider asking your Local Homebrew Shop to set it up in the store and have them sell it for you (of course they would have to get a cut). That's only if you have...

    New design question

The only reason I wouldn't want to use a plate chiller as your HERMs coil is because they are difficult to clean after a brew day. Mine requires taking it off the stand and shaking it around to loosen bits of hops and trub and no matter how many times I rinse it out, I'm still able to get...

You know you're obsessed with brewing when...

While shopping for a new house you're number one priority is figuring out where you can put a brewing room! :mug: My wife and I are looking into moving and that's honestly my number one priority with space for a small workshop nearby a close 2nd:) We found a beautiful old italianate...

    DFH 120 Min:)

I plan on trying one soon and aging the other one for a year or more and comparing notes on how it aged. From what I've read it really does age well. I'm typically a fan of nice dry, super hoppy IPAs as well (For instance last night I had Stone Ruination IPA and it was incredibly delicious)...

    DFH 120 Min:)

I am super happy to report that I managed to get my hands on 4 bottles of this today! Holy Crap! Anyway, whats the best temp to age this at? I have them at 55 deg with my bock right now. Will that work or should I put them in the fridge?

    Anyone have switch problems?

I used the same source as Kal for all my components and I haven't had any problems yet. I've done probably a dozen brews or so on the system so far. I would make sure the switches aren't loose as mentioned.

    Cost Savings in Electric?

Holy crap, somebody likes math a little too much:)!! Nice calculations though!

    Cost Savings in Electric?

In my opinion electricity has got to be cheaper than all that propane. If you wanted to do a rough estimate on math just assume it takes 30 minutes to heat up your system, 60 mins for a mash, another 20-30 to heat up to boiling, than 60 minutes of boiling. Assume you're using 22amps at 240V's...

    Penrose Kettle

The kettle is over 15.5 gallons. Check out brewhemoth.com for exact dimensions. I would say it takes approximately 15-20 mins to bring 8 gallons of wort up to boil from 160 degrees or so. It may be faster than that but I've never timed it. It works very well and you can acheive a very...

    Penrose Kettle

Here are some pics. The heating element is a 5500W/240V Camco and would come with it installed as shown in the pics, only without the cord. You would need to just wire up your own cord to the box. Very easy to do. The picture of the inside of the kettle won't load for some reason, I'm...

    Penrose Kettle

I have a used Penrose kettle for sale. Its been modified (by the guys at brewhemoth) to include a 1" half coupler for a heating element so it can be used as an E-Kettle. It also has a small hole punched out for a temp probe. Its in great shape and will include a stainless steel ball valve and...

how do you clean your electric rig?

Not really necessary. Just make sure you rinse a good 3 times.

how do you clean your electric rig?

After a batch is done, I take both my Mash tun and boil kettle to a sink and hose them out to get most of the trub and spent grain material out first. Then, I fill my boil kettle up with water and PBW and run some of it through the pump and hoses into the chiller. I let it sit for at least a...

    E-HERMS Complete Set Up

Thanks for the interest guys. I've had a lot of people ask me about building a control box like this. Its hard for me to say exactly what it would cost to build because some of the parts I already had when I built this one. However, a quick estimate including a small amount for my labor/time...

Stainless steel prep table for brew stand?

I bought a really nice stainless steel prep table from IKEA not too long ago on clearance sale. Its been one of the best things I've added to my system yet. Very easy to clean and looks awesome. I'll post a pic when I get home if I can remember.
