Help Wanted: Boneyard RPM IPA Clone Recipe

Well it's close enough to the weekend and I needed a beer. Tasty. Not quite RPM but really nice.

Help Wanted: Boneyard RPM IPA Clone Recipe

Update: Our mash temps must have climbed a bit -went with 152-but not sure thermometer was accurate?, or maybe just needed more corn sugar? Anyway, the beer finished in the 1.016 to 1.018 range. There were 4 separate fermenters of it, two of which I kept at 67f. Those finished at 1.016. The...

Too Soon to Move to All Grain?

I concur with all the above. AG is not that hard, after you get some gear, you can brew more styles with better results. The ingredients get cheaper, the hobby gets more complex and more fun IMHO. p.s. I brewed 7 extract batches. Then on a Home Depot run saw a Rubbermaid cooler-bought it...

Can you Brew It recipe for Firestone Walker Union Jack

Hi guys, I brewed this about a year and a half ago, and can't recall how long I let it condition before drinking. I have a fishout the second week of July for which I am brewing four beers; FWUJ IPA (1.075), American Stout(1.065), American Wheat(1.042) and American Lager(1.041). I already...

    Hop combinations to avoid!!!

Yep,exactly my experience with Liberty. As I stated elsewhere on this thread, Liberty just does not blend well with citrusy hops.

    Hop combinations to avoid!!!

Its really interesting to hear what people like and dislike. One of the top IPAs out there, Green Flash, is all Simcoe/Columbus.I love it, and use those hops all the time. But a lot of people just do not like those hops. I like Mt. Hood in lots of beers-its pretty neutral and adds a little noble...

Help Wanted: Boneyard RPM IPA Clone Recipe

Thanks Bob. We are sticking with the grain bill; we bought the grain and have it ready to go in an hour. You may be right about the grain bill, but I am hoping with a little munich and clean mash, we will end up close for this first try. We are doing one split off the "mother wort" with FWH...

Help Wanted: Boneyard RPM IPA Clone Recipe

Bravo is the wildcard. Not sure we will use it as late addition for all batches. It smells good. But never used it either. Seems the threads about Bravo show pretty good results overall as both a bittering and aroma hop.

Help Wanted: Boneyard RPM IPA Clone Recipe

Phew, this beer has been a lot of work and have not even brewed it yet. We are trying this grain bill: Great Western Premium 2-Row - 84% Great Western Munich (6L) - 7% Great Western C-30 5.5% Corn Sugar - 3.5% And these are the basic hop schedules we are planning to try tomorrow:Going heavy on...

Good point. Bravo and CTZ are similar as are cascade and centennial.

Help Wanted: Boneyard RPM IPA Clone Recipe

OK, so 152 it shall be. Do you think there is a bit of Munich in the malt bill?

Help Wanted: Boneyard RPM IPA Clone Recipe

Interview with brewer: at minute 11:00 he tells us there are 6 hops in RPM: Bravo, Centennial, Citra, Cascade, CTZ and Chinook. He worked at Deschutes for years. He used to work at 3 Floyds (and still close with), makers of Zombie Dust- all Citra APA/IPA. He worked at Firestone Walker too. I...

Specialty IPA: Red IPA India Red Ale

I use .3 gallons water per pound of grain. Since the temperature of my grain changes (I keep in garage), I use similar calculators as shown by SilverZero. So with 13 lbs grain/.3 is 3.9 gallons water. Usually I heat to 170, keep some boiling and cold water handy and then just mix in the grains...

    Briess's Midnight Wheat Malt

I used a pound in a 6 gal. black IPA/CDA- it is outstanding.Roasty, but not harsh at all. Very smooth and very dark (50 SRM).

    Midnight Wheat- add head retention?

My CDA came out fantastic with Midnight Wheat. There is plenty of head retention, like abrix stated, it has more head than most other beers I make. I attribute that to a clean ferment, and the mix of malts: Midnight Wheat, Crystal 40 and Maris Otter. I did not add any flaked barley. So...

Can you Brew It recipe for Stone Levitation

I have not had the commercial version for a couple months, but I love everything about it. Crystal is much more of a northwest-y hop. There is something about Liberty that I find really clashes with most APA/IPA hops.
