    Efficiency for higher gravity

Yea I have my easydens but I won't even test it until it's been a full 7 days.

Holy moly. @day_trippr this gonna be 4oz and I'm gonna be drunk from alc% haha

    Efficiency for higher gravity

I was hoping it finished at 1.025ish. So hopefully it's slightly off do to the foam. Chocolate stout. We don't want it super dry Bubbles definitely slowed down from yesterday's vigorous fermentation so it's slowing down

Dry s-04 per the recipe It was going crazy 11 hours after pitching. I didn't even get a chance to dose second batch of pure O2 15 hours after pitch Right now: est 1.024

So far there is no sign of it slowing down!

    Efficiency for higher gravity

Exactly what I just did! Thanks. I shake it Everytime I walk by it and also open to smell it. So far smells like dark rum lol.

Beersmith. Just woke up and was going to burst more O2 into it but it's already bubbling out the blowoff. So I guess that's a no go anymore. @day_trippr do the nibs soak and absorb the rum. I barely had them covered and now it's like it evaporated some even though mason jar and air tight lid...

    Efficiency for higher gravity

Thanks. I'm definitely happy with the way it came out. Not sure why I had a little more wort than calculated. But I can live with it. I'm second guessing my organic vanilla beans they are small. I feel like I'm gonna need 4 of these suckers. To equal to 2 regular ones lol

    Efficiency for higher gravity

Starting OG. 1.100. Recipe called for 1.104. But mash efficiency was 72.3%. I actually had a little more batch volume than I was suppose too. I'd say that's because I started preboil with a little more after I pressed all the liquid out. That being said I'd say it's a success. Oxygenated it...

    Efficiency for higher gravity

    2. Hour boil started. Finished mash. Beersmith said 1.061 and 10.79g preboil. After squeezing my basket with press plate. I'm at 1.062 @ 10.50-10.55g preboil Mash ph was 5.40-5.44 at the end of 60 min

Holy it's full. Maxed out! Sitting so carefully every 15 min while it circulates and sprays on top. Eeeek!

Is gypsum sold at a local grocery store? Where can I get it. Noticed I don't have it. Nevermind it's calcium sulfate. CaSO4 x 2H2O. That I have. Different name lol Dang that's a lot of malt/grain. Phew. Warming up the mash temp

Here goes nothing. Measuring 12.41g in spike solo for the day. Let's gooo!

    Efficiency for higher gravity

I just did that and I'm ready for tomorrow. Question making boil 2 hours why did my ibu go from 98.1 to 108. The two hop additions still are set to 60 min and 15 min. But why would the ibu jump just By setting 2 hour boil. It shouldn't change as I'll just do a hour boil first then start my...

    Efficiency for higher gravity

Mind you, without the flame out honey Well added. Beersmith says I want to be at 1.091. Well, maybe I'll use the 70% eff instead of my normal 75%. And do double mill AND 120 min boil and just see where it goes.
  16. M

    Efficiency for higher gravity

So if I normally boil 60 min and it's like 1.62g boil off. You mean what beersmith says. Add another 1.62g of volume to my mash and do a 2 hour boil???
  17. M

    Efficiency for higher gravity

I'm just gonna do the 70% recipe. And just see what it does. I'll learn for next time. 70% and double milling. I'll report back
  18. M

    Efficiency for higher gravity

ok ill just go with 70% instead of my regular 75% and try for the first time a double pass on the mill and ill see what happens.....

    Efficiency for higher gravity

I am tackling a very high 1.100-1.104 gravity brew saturday. Never attempted this high before. My last two 7% beers were 75% efficiency all said and done. Should i roll with it and keep it at 75% or lower to 70% with recipe. I dont mind if the outcome is under the 10% and is 9 or even 8. but if...

Adding cacao nibs to a stout

FedEx never showed so Saturday is now brew day for my first high gravity. And first stout thanks to @day_trippr. I have my recipes at 75% efficiency, should I roll with it for my BIAB or rescale at like 70% and have more grains added to make up for lower efficiency with high gravity beers? If...
