    Lexington, KY

I work down the road from Listermans. (Norwood) Paradise is on the east side and might be shortest drive. I have not been to the store on west side. Jungle Jim's also has ingredients and kits, they do not have all ingredients though (I went with a recipe and they did not have the grains I was...

    Greetings from Cincinnati

I don't think I posted here when I joined many years ago. In 2008 I started with a Mr Beer kit and made some decent (=drinkable) beers. In 2012 I upgraded to a "real" brewing kit. Part of the reason was I melted the Mr Beer keg the last time I used it. Different story for a different day. I...

Fruit Beer Hopped Blood Orange Hefeweizen

This looks good. Can you explain "zest oranges"- that means grate them, right? How many Oz of orange peel do you want, and when is this added (boil or later?). Thx. jIM

    New Brewer observations

I started with Mr Beer many years ago and just upgraded to a better kit and partial mashing in 2012. Mr Beer's bottling technique is better/more consistent (I had one batch with 50% flat beers, and the 4-5 I made with Mr Beer never had that issue). Granted maybe I missed something, as I have...

I live about 80 miles north (in Cincinnati) and we have 4 local supply stores. I also have a friend which orders from Northern Brewers online. We also have a club in Cincy which meets once a month.

    50 years, 50 beers

**bingo** had not thought this through all the way, thanks. For my beer, I use 16 oz growlers, and usually fill between 36-44 bottles. For this gift, I will be using leftover sam adams and similar 12 oz bottles, so getting 48-50 bottles should be easier.

    50 years, 50 beers

I am brewing a batch to give as a 50th birthday present. Normally a 5 gallon batch fills about 38-43 bottles. Is there a consequence if I fill the bottles less full so I generate 50 bottles for the 50th birthday? It will be a partial mash with priming sugar added to bottling bucket before...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

How could someone turn that recipe into a partial mash if not familiar with all grain techniques?

    Dumba$$ problem when I bottled

I was bottling a Belgian Wheat... I boiled 5 ounces of water and added my priming sugar to it I added that to my sanitized bottling bucket Then siphoned my secondary to the bucket I forgot to close spigot So some of the sugar water spilled on the floor. What would you do? I lost...

    it still tastes bad

I would also ask how do you clean before you sanitize? With soap? Is the soap rinsed (if you fill pot or bucket with hot water, does it foam up? Is the bucket dry before you add wort? Are you using hops bags, or adding the hops to the wort? At what part of the boil are you adding hops...

    Ayinger Dunkel Weizen clone

I am experimenting brewing different Belgian Wheat and German Hefeweizen beer. I just had a commercial Ayinger Dunkel Weizen and would like to brew something similar to this, or clone it if I can. Suggestions?

    Beers #3, 4 and 5

I have brewed 2 beers in last few months, after taking about 4 years experience with Mr Beer. Beer #1 was a Belgian, I messed up the hops (forgot to add at beginning of boil), so that beer is a little different. Beer #2 was a red ale given to me as a gift. Half of that is already consumed...

Racked on Top of Priming, Still Flat Beers

How long should beer be bottled before consumption? My instructions for batch 1 suggested 2 weeks. Brew beer, ferment 2 weeks, then bottle beer and let set in bottle for two weeks.

    Inconsistent carbonation

I have made several brews before... about 4 with a Mr Beer kit, and generally all those were good. I used growlers with rubber stoppers (about 24 of them??). This xmas I upgraded to a brewmaster kit, and increased growler count to about 60 growlers. Generally speaking, I cannot tell one...
