    REAL Beer bread

Sounds amazing! I might try this with the tribune from my pumpkin porter. Maybe I'll get a pumpkin beer bread!

Awoke to IPA krausen on the ceiling

Got one end sitting in an open tub of water. Just seems like bacteria can get into that water tub really easily and then travel up the tube.

Awoke to IPA krausen on the ceiling

So I know this is a big giant "Hey I'm fermenting!" sign. Here's the deal though. I don't like using blow-off hoses cause it just seems unsanitary to me. Should I be ok if I just clean out the airlock, resanitize, and replace it on the carboy?

Time to upgrade the brew kettle

Thanks for the thorough answer. Right now I'm just doing extract brews. I'm the type of person who likes to make sure I have this step mastered and slowly add a new more complex step and master that before moving on. So if I do AG, it won't be for some time until I'm fully comfortable doing...

Time to upgrade the brew kettle

I've got 3 batches under my belt and it's time to upgrade the brew kettle. Right now I can only do partial boils due to it being only about 4 gallons. I'm looking at something around the 30qt size and I'll probably go with aluminum cause it's a little easier on the wallet. I found this deal...

    Disregard.

    What are you brewing now?

Two Hearted Ale and Oberon...two of my favorites.

    What are you brewing now?

Did a double brew today. First batch was a Pumpkin Spice Porter and the second was an attempt at an Anchor Steam Liberty Ale clone.

    Reuse of steeping grains?

How do you make dog treats out of it? Add more ingredients and make some sort of solid?

    Reuse of steeping grains?

What is the general consensus on hanging the steeping bag/grains to dry and then hanging them outside for the birds? There's no alcohol in them so I don't see how it could harm any animals. Thought it might be a creative use for used steeping grains. :)

    Nano Brewery anyone???

I had the same issue while reading that. Couldn't stop thinking, "Hey I could do that!"

    Pumpkin ale ingredients discussion

So I've got 1 batch under my belt and Thursday is brew day number 2! I'll be brewing an extract IPA kit that I'm adding additional hops to in a noobie attempt at cloning an Anchor Steam Liberty Ale. The second brew of the day is going to be my attempt at making an extract pumpkin ale. Since...

Young peach wine getting odd hydro reading

Yeah, I'm planning on sweetening it, but I won't do that until I'm ready to bottle and after I've stabilized it. I have pectic enzyme that I'll use to clear it up as much as possible, but I can't use a lot of the liquid fining agents as they are shellfish derivatives and my mom is allergic to...

Young peach wine getting odd hydro reading

I couldn't read the hydrometer cause it went all the way down into the wine with just a little tiny bit of the tip left out. Just enough for me to pinch it to get it back out. It definitely is a bit opaque. Hope it comes out with racking, but I'm not sure it will.

Young peach wine getting odd hydro reading

I have 5 gallons of peach wine in secondary. It was started on 1 July 2011 so it's only 2 1/2 months old. I racked it today and took a hydro reading. I almost lost the hydrometer cause it went so low. I won't really be able to tell when I have several days of the same gravity reading in...

    First batch success

Well today was D-Day for my first batch. First taste was surprisingly good. I did an American Amber kit for my first batch and even though I was sure that I did 15 things wrong on brew day and bottling day it turned out pretty darn well. Good carbonation, pretty good taste (a bit malty and...

    Probably a common problem

Got it all covered guys. Went to a local bar and luckily their recycling runs go on Tuesday mornings. Got to dig through 3 plastic garbage cans full of empties. Got a good 50 pop top bottles for free (except for the extra scrubbing/sanitizing time to clean them up good). Also bought a few 1L...

    Probably a common problem

It's been in primary for a bit more than a month. All my homebrew stuff is at my parent's place in WV as I just graduated college and my life is in disarray for a while. I'm leaving here tomorrow to head up to Michigan and I'm not sure when I'll be back. I left instructions for my father...

    Probably a common problem

Alas, it is my first bottling day and I have wayyy too few empty bottles for my first batch of homebrew. What to do, what to do? I have about 4.5 gallons of wort that need to be bottled today and only 13 bottles. I do have plenty of wine bottles though. I'm thinking wine bottles may be a...
