The Alchemist is closing its tasting room!!!

Lawson's has never had a tap room open. Hill Farmstead is a good visit, don't sleep on Lost Nation, which would be on your way from Waterbury <-> Greensboro. You'll pass by Rock Art too, but meh. I'm not sure how getting Heady will be once the increased distribution. But even now, if you are...

Portland Maine - Best places to eat / drink?

Check this thread. As I said in that thread, Duckfat is a must (it is worth the wait), Mama's Crowbar (cash only beer bar) is a great spot too. Fore Street is great. Big Sky Bakery is so amazing for breakfast/pastries. Rising Tide is a nice visit - brewer/owner is very friendly, also check out...

2014: A year of German beers!

This is a cool idea. I was thinking about doing something similar, although I was going to expand it to all Lagers, once I get a real lager setup, and I was just going to use Jamil's book. I've made about 10 or so recipes from the book so far, and they've all turned out great.

Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

Brewed this a couple times now and really enjoy it. Upped the rye but just wasn't the same. A little off topic but where did O'Daniel's version go? Looks like that thread (and his account) were deleted.

Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

I had great success with this beer. Hit my OG dead on but FG was 1.011. Used US-05. I plan on doing this again and upping the Rye a tiny bit more and maybe a different yeast. This beer is perfect for the 5th season of weather we get up here in Vermont, Mud season, where you still want a...

    Portland, ME brewpubs/breweries?

Make sure you try some Oxbow beer; probably the best brewery in the state (imo). The brewery isn't in Portland, but you'll find a lot of places with it on tap. Maine Beer Company is great, they are currently moving to Freeport from Portland. Allagash is a good brewery to visit (and they are the...

    100% brett cider

Odd pissing contest going on.... Anyway, sounds like an awesome experiment. I'd be very interested to see how this turns out. Brett in primary seems to be what barrel aging was like 2 years ago. The only 100% brett fermented beer I've ever had was so clean and didn't have any brett qualities...

Which online vendor has the best recipes?

I've enjoyed almost all of the kits/recipes I've gotten from Austin Homebrew. The only ones I haven't enjoyed were pulled or changed due to customer responses (I assume).

Northeast US trip soon, what beers to look for?

Bypass all the states in New England except Vermont. On the way pick-up some Jack's Abbey in Mass. There website can tell you where to pick it up. If you are looking for beer, you'll want to stay in Waterbury, VT. Blackback (this place has the most Hill Farmstead on tap in state), Prohibition...

    Is Hop union's scale broken?

I just had this problem yesterday. Did a double brew day with 6 oz of hops for both. 5 of the bags were perfectly 1oz, the 6th was .87 oz. I end up weighing out my hops a lot just to be sure and I've seen Hop Union +/- .05 oz, but never as much as -.13oz

    Raisins for carbonation?

This is really interesting. Was thinking about making a high gravity spiced/winter beer early next year for next xmas. Would be interesting to carb it with raisins

    Shed Mountain Ale Clone

The new Shed Mountain Ale seems way better to me than I remember. I've not tried this recipe but I think Jester's makes a mighty fine beer. Doesn't taste exactly like the new shed or the old one but pretty darn close. I love making a batch and drying hopping 1/2 of it with Cascade. Be...

    White Rajah Clone

Sub'd. Sent a week for work in the area and just stumbled on the Brew Kettle. Drank like 40 pints of this, and man do they have good BBQ too. The bartender I spoke to, seemed to imply this is brewed with all citra hops. Who knows how much they know, but figured I'd point that out. (They also...

    Heady Topper

They get a lot of ****** bag tourists in there so if you show any interest in good beer, they are usually extremely helpful. If you talk up the guy with the big beard he might point out some gems they put aside for the locals. It is definitely the best beer store in my area. Vermont is the best...

    Breweries/brewpubs along I-90?

Having just done this trip (although we went VT all the way to OR, then back through MT), I'd say make your beer stops in WI ;) We stopped in Sioux Falls SD for the night and there is one place called Monks House of Ale Repute, which is supposedly the best place to get a drink. We just went to...

West Coast beers for trade (Russian River, Green Flash, Firestone, ect)

Still interested in getting Heady? I live 5 mins from the brewery. I can also get any other Vermont stuff too, Lawson's and Hill Farmstead for example. Also, some of the other New England beers like White Birch, Maine Beer Company, and Allagash - to name a few. I just spent 2 weeks in the NW...

Skeeter Pee - Starting with Dry Yeast

Thought I had sub'd this thread, but obviously didn't. I've made a few matches of SP now, using this exact method, and has come out well every time.

    "Session" IPA's - let's hear it!

Sub'd. I too would love an IPA around the 4% abv range.

    Heady Topper

I could have sworn I saw cans at Positive Pie in Plainfield, but I guess that might be considered Montpelier. It is crazy to me how they basically sell out every week. Every time I go to pick up some the brewery's parking lot is always filled. Usually with out of state plates.
