    $21 Copper mash tun manifold

This thread was hijacked long ago...I drilled my sparge manifold. I took the handle off one of the brushes you get with your soldering kit and shoved it through each tube a few times to get rid of them. But probably didn't need to, on the sparge side it wasn't going to hurt anything...

    Official 999 Swap Feedback Thread...

All right. Me and SWMBO reviewed two last night. I though it would be interesting to get notes from someone who is into beer, but in no way an experienced taster. Most of her more out there tastings have been things that I brewed, and my barleywine is the only one she has ever tasted. So here's...

    Official 999 Swap Feedback Thread...

Waiting for SWMBO to get home, then a tasting of at least 2! With one quasi serious BJCP score sheet and one more...casual tasting notes, I hope to give you guys an earful!

    Strange find

    1) I don't find this creepy at all, but very very cool. 2) Understanding the need for speed, I would just stopper them and move them. Let them settle for a few weeks, then transfer, if need be, or just bottle. 3) If they have all (or some) turned to vinegar, I bet it's damn good vinegar...

Where is my grain bed??? I cant find it!!!

The reason that it works to rinse grains is simple and easy to do a bit of an experament with. Take the first runnings from your hlt, a 1/2 cup or so. Pour them into a hydrometer tube. Now carefully (CAREFULLY!) pour a bit of clean water SLOWLY down the side of the tube. They will seperate...

5 Gal Brew Rig (ok, its just a cart...but still)

Looks very smooth! I notice no casters though? *edit- I see them mentioned, must just be out of sight...*

Ok, I'm not just being paranoid about infections...

Do you know anyone that works in a hospital/medical office? Anybody that might have access to a larger autoclave? Or you could try building a UV box with a shoplight or something to sanitize your carboys so you can still use them. (Think a big mirrored box with a huge blacklight on top of it)...

I've got one or two left, and I'll be sampling tomorrow (my birthday) as well...

    I'm Thinking... 09/09/09 Barleywine

So we're now less than 5 weeks out. I still haven't recieved any brews from Korndog. I'm not encouraging flaming or anything else, I'm just curious how many others are currently in receivership of 2/3 (or worse, but I hope not). I'm disappointed, I've only participated in 3 swaps on HBT (888...

    I'm Thinking... 09/09/09 Barleywine

That's a hard question for anyone to answer. The hot garage is never a good place to store your beers. If you're willing to risk the bottle bombs, I would try a small starter with the beer yeast and add a few drops of ACTIVELY FERMENTING yeast, rather than the dry stuff. What was your OG...

    Rock Salt and Cooling Wort?

The Jamil Whirlpool Immersion Chiller method does, in fact, encorporate pumping your chilling water from a bucket full of ice water. This explains how he is incorporating rock salt. Not sure I'd want to run a bunch of saltwater through my pumps and chillers, but that's the mystery solved.

    Cash for Clunkers

Since you seem to be well informed on the subject, allow me to post a question. I have been following the bill with a bit of interest, but I think they wrote me out of it. I have been driving, for about 2-3 years, SWMBO's grandfathers pickup. Long story short, he bought a new Dodge Ram in 1989...

Who here is happy with glass carboys?

3 primaries and 6 secondarys here...I've already broken one primary when I dropped it nose down into a concrete sink, which was nice enough to contain the broken pieces for me. I love my glass for it's impermeability, ease of cleaning, and most of all I really enjoy the show. I always crate them...

Woot! I found two more bombers and two more 12's I had stashed behind a bunch of empty cases...thank god for hiding things from yourself!

    Immersion Chiller users...

I leave mine in for the whole boil. I use a dip tube in my keggle, and I just slide it between coils and adjust the tube from there. It stays in for the whole time.

    Prickly Pear Mead

Just found PP fruit at the local grocery store (that's right, in MI) for .59/each. Don't think it'd be worth it to make mead (at least not more than a Gallon for fun) but I'll be trying them out for the first time tonight.

    Help with "The Golden Dragon"

The reasoning behind the addition of simple sugars at high krauesen was explained to me as such. The malt sugars are more difficult to consume for the yeasts as they are longer chain sugars and require a bit more work. If the simple sugars (in this case, candi sugar) are introduced early, the...
