Guy seems like a turd bag...

Actually now that I reflect. My favorite part is the end of the last video after he drinks some of his brew. The sound he makes is funny. I gotta tell ya, anyone that posts video on YT and doesn't expect to be called a turd is a turd.

Guy seems like a turd bag...

I watched all three of his video and although his methods are loose it was entertaining. I was a turd bag in the beginning too, now I am just a little more educated turd bag.

My experience swirling the primary after getting impatient

must be that time of the year. I too have a pumpkin ale in the primary since early monday morning. Used dry T-58 and with all that I have read I expected a huge thunder of fermenation fun. I have kept it cool around 65-70 and honestly it was very noneventfull. I will be checking the SG in...

    How long do they last?

my experience says the longer the better. I have brewed a wide variety from light to dark and they all seem to be better by the last bottle. I have brewed some light ale kits that stated that the batch should be consumed within a few weeks to a month, but even that one was still good after...

    I've had it with bottling!!!

I have been bottling since the beginning and I don't mind the work associated with it. I have 15 gallons that I will be bottle tonight and I just break the tasks into two nights and there ya go. The main reason why I like bottles over keg is the portability of it. I know that there are...

    High-AA hops to complement Cascade?

Try Horizon which can be used as a substitute for Magnum. High AA, but seems to be a bit more mellow. I used Horrizon in an American lager which seemed to come out well. This is a great link for Hop related items. http://byo.com/referenceguide/hops/

Ever Make a Beer You Didn't Like?

Yep a light (not pale) ale. As it has aged though I have found that either my taste buds are getting used to it or it is actually getting better. I was trying to go for an ale version of MGD, but ended up with an ale that has almost no character other then alcohol and fizz.

    Recipe Suggestions

You can never go wrong with a good extract kit to get things going and get your feet wet. I found that I really couldn't relate to much of the written word until after I brewed and drank my first batch. My first batch was a nice amber Ale extract kit, and shortly there after an oatmeal stout...

    The CORRECT Batch Sparge Volume?

Ah, I mistyped the 7.75. I would like to say I fat fingered it, but that would be a huge fat finger.

    The CORRECT Batch Sparge Volume?

sparge water plus water in the mastun adjust for loss in the grains and deadspace and you end up with 8.9 which is low depending on any dead space in your sparge container. here are the numbers 7.25 gallons for sparge 4.26 gallons in mash 1.86 gallons loss in grain = 9.65 gallons .5...

    The CORRECT Batch Sparge Volume?

Oh, as an example with your figures 15.5 /2 = 7.75 gallons or 31 quarts. You should have used 4.26 gallons of water for the mash, so with all said you end up with 8.90 gallons in th kettle and 5.74 left over after boil. This is based on a 5 gallon batch.

    Too sweet?

I agree with brewt00l with the variables. If your actual temp range did hit 90 that would blow out the yeast quickly. Ale yeast obviously can take higher temp, but I have never taken them to 90. 1018 does sounds like a sweet end product though. On another note: I am cheap and don't run...

    The CORRECT Batch Sparge Volume?

Easy rule of thumb is 1/2 your grain volume. Brewing software also helps to work out some of the specifics, but this has always worked for me.

    Recirculating.

I do the same process for clarity which it has seemed to help a bit, except with those crazy wheat beers. I haven't checked to see if there is any efficiency increases, but I wouldn't expect much.

Where can I buy a grain mill at locally

If you are near the B3 retails store in Riverside, they don't charge for the milling and their setting is pretty fine, but not too fine. The CrankenStein roller mill is a sweet mill and with the adjustments you can practically get dust and still have some hulls.
