    Sending Beer Into Competition

Hello everyone, I am sending my beer into my first comp next month. I have a question for you all. I keg, I will be filling bottles off the keg. How long is too old to send a beer? I know it's going to depend on the style of beer. I am going to be sending in a Kolsch and possibly an APA. The...

IPA not getting the taste I want....Help!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you want more hop flavor, you want to add more hops at about 15-0 min in the boil. If you want more hop aroma you will dry hop. I know you get a little bit of hop flavor from dry hopping but most of the hop flavor comes in the boil.

To decant or not decant...that is the question

The only reason I think folks might decant is to reduce the amount of "beer" into the certain style of wort. I personally decant. I just don't want my "Extra light DME" beer in my amber ale or lager. It's more about getting the most out of the yeast cake.

    Inexpensive false bottom?

Hey Bobby, I was just looking at your site for new stuff and noticed these false bottoms for BIABers. If I have a keggle, which size would I need?

    Crystal Clear Beer.

Okay, thanks to you, HBT members, I tired something new with my fermentation/kegging process. Usually if I'm making a Pale Ale or IPA or something I want to be super clear, I will use a Whirlflock tablet in the boil if I can remember. This time I tried a few new things after a lot of reading...

Does anyone else ignore their water?

I used to do the same thing (buy water from the grocery store). Then I bought a PH test kit to see where my water sat, and it looks good PH wise. The flavor of it is good too. Now I just run it through a RV water filter (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006IX87S/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20) just...

    Yeast Starter Volume.

The 500ml slurry was decanted! I figured it was more about making sure there was enough food for the yeast! Thanks for the responses! It puts my mind to ease.

    Yeast Starter Volume.

Hi all, I've been brewing for a while now, but have a question that I've been arguing with myself over for the past few brews. Say I need a 1.5 liter yeast starter, should I be putting in 1.5 liters of wort WITHOUT yeast, or should my final volume be 1.5 liters including yeast? For...

    How Bad Will It Be?

I did .8 of a jalapeno during the boil and supposed to add about .2 of one in secondary according to Beersmith. I'm not to worried about the hops, I didn't want it to be hop forward anyways.

    How Bad Will It Be?

So I have about 10-15 all grain batches under my belt and wanted to start experimenting with different flavors. Two days ago, I made a 1 gallon test batch of a jalapeno wheat beer. the recipe calls for 1# 2-row, 12.8ozs wheat, and 1.6ozs Munich. For some reason, I purchased 1# each of the...

    New Brew Helper

Hey Guys, I am a LONG time lurker, but don't post too much. I wanted to share the birth of my son (co-brewer), Isaac. I also attached a photo of my current co-brewer, my two year old daughter holding her new brother. Hope you enjoy!
