What are you brewing/drinking on the 4th

I have a five liter keg of a nice pilsner (at least all of the batch that was bottled was great) chilled down along with some english bitter (bottled) that really needs another month to hit its prime but is darn good now. No brewing is planned, my Corona clone is still lagering and the sanyo...

    Yeast Problems... wrong temp.

90 minutes, no sweat. Have a nice beer and relax, bet you that by morning it will be happily bubbling away.

    Yeast Problems... wrong temp.

How long have you waited? Has it been over 48 hours? 90F is not hot enough to kill the yeast so it should be fine.

    Am I Being Paranoid?

Don't worry it will be fine. I've had some take off and finish fast, others go for over a week. It's all good. Just give it ample time to condition before bottling. The standard rule is 1 week in primary, two in secondary, three in bottles.

Where to buy Beer kits online?

I have never tried the alcohol booster so I can't tell you much about it. Yeast fuel are extra nutrients for the yeast, not needed for most beers to the best of my knowlege. Might be useful for making starters. Ice packs can come in handy during summer shipping, but not needed. Enough of the...

muntons says 6, HBS says 5, huh?

A three gallon pot is fine. With extract brewing like this you'll only need to heat up 1-2 gallons of water. Do not let aluminum scare you, it can (and is) safely used all the time. In a perfect world stainless is the way to go, but it is not the only solution. My first three brews I didn't...

muntons says 6, HBS says 5, huh?

Thick like molasses describes LME very well, I'll be though, I have never seen liquid sold in foil packets. Cans yes, plastic jugs yes, but never in foil packs. Keep us informed of what it is when you finally do the brewing. I'm still betting on it being DME, although for the purpose of...

muntons says 6, HBS says 5, huh?

Are you sure it isn't LIGHT Malt Extract and not liquid? Normally liquid is in a can or plastic jug (bottle), not a packet, but I guess anything is possible. If it is a lager type yeast then make certain to keep the temperature down during fermentation. Lager yeast likes it cold.

muntons says 6, HBS says 5, huh?

Don't worry, it will be fine. Did the HBS give you directions? You'll want to follow their directions and not the directions on the can. In a nutshell, you'll want to put 2 gallons of water into your "kettle" (stainless steel, aluminum or enameled pot) add in the dried malt extract, stir...

    eep oxygen into secondary?

The standard rule of thumb is at least 1 week in the primary, 2 weeks in the secondary and 3 weeks in the bottle. That said, some beers are quite drinkable with one week in the primary and one week in the bottle. But virtually all beers improve dramatically with extra aging. Once you bottle...

    newbie ?s

I started with a beer man microbrewery kit (no-boil) http://www.beermanmicrobrewery.com/ Since then I've added stuff from a local shop as well as stuff from http://www.annapolishomebrew.com/ as well as quite a bit from http://www.midwestsupplies.com/ most recently.

    newbie ?s

Most everyone finds a kit the easiest and most painfree way to go. If you have a local shop they can set you up. If not you can always order online and get it delivered. Don't go crazy, you don't need much to get started. Trust me once you get hooked, and you will, you will go on a buying...

    What's Brewing This Weekend? (6/15-17)

Tonight the barleywine gets bottled, once the carboy is cleaned out a British Bitter gets racked into it for secondary. Tomorrow I plan on brewing either a Corona clone or a Red Ale.

    Who's brewing today?

A little later today I'll be racking an English Barley Wine into the secondary then brewing up an English Bitter to go into the primary. It's getting too warm so I used that as an excuse to pick up a Sanyo-4912 to keep the fermentor cool. At least until I can't stand looking at it without a...

Did you all have a name for your "brewery" after one batch?

Check back in a week to ten days, the companies that sample domain names return all the ones that don't have good traffic before they hae to pay for them. There is a good chance the domain will become available again soon.

    Label Advice Needed

I have a family heirloom, a sign from my Great-Grandfathers brewery that I was thinking of using as the basis for designing my labels. Here is a somewhat poor quality pic of the sign, the glass reflects a bit but it is way too fragile to remove from the frame. It is hand painted with the...

    Ethical dilemma: Re: Mr Beer

If its the smell of hops and "mess" of boiling that he would be concerned about that get him one of the no-boil kits that are out there. They all come with a fermenting/bottling bucket, bottle filler, etc. If he likes it he can slowly add on to it, like getting a carboy for a secondary.

    Recipes for spent grain

Removing the husks is more than likely the correct way to do it, being lazy I adopted an alternate method. Let the spent grains dry (can be speeded up in a slow oven) when dry a quick run through a food mill does the trick. Add to your prepared meat, add some beer to "rehydrate" and let it...
