A plethora of questions (not pinatas)

So I've been writing down questions and ideas that have come up and instead of making many posts, I wanted to condense them into one. Any response is very much appreciated and thank you in advance. 1. Are oxygen absorbing caps the smart way for a run of the mill brew? The cost is pretty...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Wow, very cool. Thanks for sharing. When can I expect them available for purchase at k-mart? :D

    Another reason to hate Budweiser

+1 Government is the cause and means of passing dumb laws. When people try to sell the idea of a "partnership" between business and government (cough LBJ) they really mean favors for this business or that. Whatever a business does, dumb government is the link in the chain that's broken.

    S-shaped vs 3-piece airlock

I'm used to the 3 piece and am just used to it. They're easy to clean and seem to handle even very vigorous fermentation. I do have an S-shaped one to try on my next secondary, was told it was easier to see action in, but I too am interested in any real advantage one way or the other.

    Another reason to hate Budweiser

Working on it! :mug: I just look at macro beer as being a completely different product than, um, good beer. It's like OJ vs Coke IMHO.

    Another reason to hate Budweiser

I plan on buying BMC products at wal-mart. Sure I don't agree with everything both companies do, but they're not physically forcing anyone to do anything. I guess everyone could make the government force them to act a certain way.... that works wonders. <--broke capitalist :)

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

    12350 + 5 = 12355 First batch, delicious, will make more soon.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

The one batch I have made was very dry and only has a slight apple taste. If it's something strong enough to make it near "undrinkable" it's surprising.

    1554 is here motherf***er!

I like most all their brews and they're pretty common around here. The new Mighty Arrow certainly lives up to that standard. Good excuse for more bottles.

    Sam Adams Irish Red

A newbie(ish) opinion.. I agree, way too sweet. I tasted it side by side with my Irish Red homebrew from midwest and it(SA's) was sickly sweet. Color was about the same, just had that twang. All in all not a bad beer but certainly not one of SA's best.

    Catnip / Cannabis "Hopped" beer?

Well, the way I understand it the FDA doesn't approve of thujone (or calamus+many others) in foods. But the plants and chemicals are not scheduled and therefore not illegal. What this means practically is that nothing can be sold containing these ingredients as a food/drink, but there's...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Thanks! I ended up doing half and half. The 12 still bottles will likely be for me after some aging and I'll still have the carbed half for people who can't take things as flat and dry as I. ;)

    Catnip / Cannabis "Hopped" beer?

Hmm, very interesting. I've been thinking of making a poor man's absinthe with everclear. Not the real thing without distilling of course, but until they change that law it's as close as I'll get. The tincture method would likely be the best idea for many of the possible ingredients in...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Just tried first batch today and... it's good. Used Motts juice, about 4.75 gallons in a 5 gal better bottle using standard instructions. (2 lb corn sugar, Montrachet Wine Yeast) Got it started about 6.5 weeks ago but forgot to take an OG. So when I tested it today it came out to .996! 1...

The Most Terrible Beer Ever orrr The Worst Beer Of All Time?

I used to be able to drink swill. I mean, Bud Ice after it had been left in the trunk for 8 hours on a 100 degree day. (no ice of course) Keystone ice was mentioned, which I actually think has so little flavor as to not offend that bad. The only beer I've not been able to finish was old...

A big thank you to the vet posters!

Thanks guys. As a newb to this hobby, I have learned so much from this forum. I have only a few posts, but that's because I've spent so much time reading/searching the threads. There are 100+ little things that come up and I found the answers without even having to ask. :) My first...

    Hello from Nebraska

I did stop in at Kirk's not long ago. He had a CAO cigar calendar up and Pink Floyd on the radio, both great signs. Seems like a nice guy but prices are slightly higher than internet vendors. I'll certainly buy from him again but it's more a matter of availability than price and I don't get...

    Question about bottles

I found a nice deal on Sam Adams variety 12 packs for $11.99 at my local Pamida. (wal-mart type store for those not familar) Good thing about that was it gave me an idea of a few beer styles I normally wouldn't immediately buy. Besides that the more people you can ask about bottles they more...

anybody play WOW? (world of warcraft)

I know it's an old thread, but after reading through it had to comment. I'm currently getting a bit of junk for not being on WOW the last couple weeks. Reason is reading up on brewing (mostly this forum). Addiction-wise, not sure what happens when the unstoppable force meets the unmovable...
