    Fifelee Brewery Build

The wife said I could design our new house and somehow a brewery fit perfectly in a corner under the stairs. Have a lot going on so updates may be spread out, but here we are getting ready for the floor. My helper: Concrete walls on three sides...can you say complete brewery washdown. My...

    I have a weird question.

Grasshopper leg bits are common. I raise wheat and barley. Anything that is about the same size as a kernel of barley is nearly impossible to separate. Many vegetarians (and wimpy carnivores:)) would be horrified to know how many bug parts they eat.

    question about march pump

It is a centrifugal pump where the fluid goes into the center of the impeller and is flung to the edge by centrifugal force. It will not pump backwards. If you want fluid to move the other direction just design your system with valves and a bypass so the fluid will reverse in the plumbing but...

What kind of handgun to get?

Not really inexpensive, but in my opinion nothing beats a SIG for fit, feel, and quality.

How do I brew the old fashioned way?

Humm. Interesting. I may have confused terms. I understand that malting (activating enzymes in grain) is needed to make beer. I guess I am assuming the process of malting grain then drying it for later use is a somewhat new invention. Is my assumption true that in early brewing the malting and...

How do I brew the old fashioned way?

Sorry for the hijack. Bob, How was brewing done before malting was discovered? Did they just mash for a long time? I raise wheat and barley and have wondered if I could make beer from unmalted grains. Malting and drying as a separate step must be a relatively new invention considering beer...

I bought a bunch of Beer equipment. Noob question...

If you already have a boil kettle you could mash in the other "boil kettle" you just bought. If you mash in a pot then you can direct fire to keep the mash at temp and/or do step mashing.

Who's grown some barley or has some farming experience?

Here is another good resource: http://www.msuextension.org/store/Products/Montana-Barley-Production-Guide__EB0186.aspx

Who's grown some barley or has some farming experience?

I mostly raise wheat but have done some barley. Like someone said it is easy to grow. Unless the soil has been heavily used for other crops you shouldn't have to fertalize much. Too much nitrogen will make high protein barley. Malters/brewers want low protein so their beer will clear. Your...

    Seeking kegging wisdom.

Pay attention to the kegs. There are many different versions of ball locks. Out of six kegs I somehow ended up with 4 different types. It is a real pain to keep the correct parts around to rebuild. I might be wrong but I think there is only one type of pin lock. This reason alone is almost...
