    Fruit Flies

BTW, SWIMBO uses a little coffee cup and puts some apple cider vinegar in it with a drop or two of dish detergent and that works great for the kitchen. Guess I'll start doing the same around my fermenters.

    Fruit Flies

Ok, thanks. I figured it was ok, but just needed some reassurance. Can’t help but freak a little. My sinuses/allergies are bad right now so my sniffer isn’t up to par at the moment. I had a wit sitting right next to it and there don’t appear to be any in that air lock. The spring ale was brewed...

    Fruit Flies

I was going to keg a batch of my Spring Ale this morning and there was 4 or 5 dead fruit flies in the air lock. It was filled with vodka and I didn't notice them until I dumped the vodka into the mason jar that I store it in (I reuse it)...ruining the vodka that was already in there. Anyway when...

    Marking volume inside of keggle

I notched my mash paddle one notch per gallon. I notched one side for brew kettle and one side for HLT (well...the pot that I sometimes use to heat sparge water..LOL) ie:use gallon jug, pour in one gallon, measure & notch, repeat...

Would you use a carboy that has had a dead mouse in it for 10+ years?

Heck yea, I'd use it...I just wouldn't tell the wife about the critters.

    Favorite online Homebrew Supply store?

+1 for Rebel Brewer I have bought a lot of stuff from Midwest, but recently just stumbled upon a link to Rebel and will use them most from now on. Great folks, I can order from them and get it the next day plus they have great prices and selection.

    Starter or not?

Why? I have brewed close to 20 batches so far and have always just aerated by pouring the wort vigorously into the ale pail and then using a wisk. Then pitching dry yeast and I always get bubbling within 24 hours, usually about 12. And all of my batches have been great so far. Am I just really...

    Starter or not?

I am going to brew a wit using 4.5 lbs 2 row and 4.5 lbs flaked wheat for the fermentables (expected OG ~1.044) and for yeast White Labs WLP400. I have never used liquid yeast, so I am going back and forth as to weather I need to use a starter. On the yeast vial and their website they say it's...

    Somethings eating the leaves

To protect the plants from insects mix a few drops of liquid dish washing soap per gallon of water in a sprayer and spray the foliage. Great for killing ants too...FYI

I planted mine a week ago today and they haven't come up yet. I planted them according to the instructions that came with them...abt 4" down and horizontal. Hopefully by the end of the week I will see something.

    Blonde Ale Recipe

She should. Also, you should give BM's Sterling Gold a shot. My wife loves it and it's ready to drink in two weeks if you keg.

You know what beer I miss?

I'll second that. Stroh's in those short fat bottles in the mid '70's. I still drink cheap beer, but it's good...because I make it!! :rockin:

What do you do with your spent grains?

I dump them into my garden spot and will turn them under if the ground will ever get dry. Then I will sart a compost pile.
