Belgian Strong Ale Grain to Glass in 4 weeks?

I did come across a guy who did an "AHS Strong Ale" Partial Mash on Youtube that was grain to glass in less than 3 weeks? Not golden nor All grain like I wanted but seems interesting.

Belgian Strong Ale Grain to Glass in 4 weeks?

ops forgot to mention that I would be kegging it. I was just hoping on having one ready in a shorter time frame. I think I saw a recipe on my searches out there done in 5 weeks. Yeah, I just don't want to have my keg full of something that needs to sit for too long. The fridge I have can...

Belgian Strong Ale Grain to Glass in 4 weeks?

Is it possible? I would like to do a Belgian Golden Strong Ale for my 5th brew but looking for the shortest time possible. I have seen some good recipes but can't wait months. Anything out there close to the time frame?

yeast wash I did is it ok to use this?

I feel better now! That photo is not mine. I was just using it as a quick comparison. It's from http://www.donosborn.com/homebrew/yeastwash.htm The down and dirty way. Great Tutorial. My yeast has been sitting in my fridge for like a month. You're right about the cold crash. When I...

My lager is smelling ... sharp

Not sure on the hop smell but I bet you are ok. The rotten egg smell I have read that this is normal for lagers. I actually mix rum and starsan in my airlock. It seems to kill the smell.

yeast wash I did is it ok to use this?

I'm getting ready to do another brew this weekend. My previous one I collected the yeast. I washed it then poured it in a liter bottle with screw top. After I screwed the top on, I shook it up again. Now, my collected yeast looks like the growler in this photo on the right with the dried...

What is the norm for airlock activity?

Lesson learned. I was just posting a follow up. It's hard to just trust something is going on when you have no indicators. The only thing is a wait and see policy. Just wondering is that how professional breweries work?

What is the norm for airlock activity?

Ok ..I finally got around to taking a gravity reading. So, 7 days later I'm at 1012. I guess I did get fermentation! Though, I didn't hit my numbers for the recipe. I am going to keep it in primary for the total 3 weeks, then keg it. I'll lager it for another week before tapping. The...

Rise in heat as a gauge for fermentation activity?

I'll take a reading tomorrow. I was just surprised because the heat and activity started and dropped in 1 day not a week. Sunday I pitched it, no rise in temp or activity until Tuesday was fermenting, the next day Wed. everything stopped all the way up to today.

Rise in heat as a gauge for fermentation activity?

The recipe I linked says WLP029 with starter. I should of done the starter! But I only had enough to do the recipe. The beer store is long ways away from me to just run out and get more stuff. I agree with you about a yeast packet. It has more yeast and really no need to make a starter. If...

Rise in heat as a gauge for fermentation activity?

yeah, OG was 1046... I'm not really that concerned with bubbling in the airlock as much as temp in fermenter bucket. So, it could totally ferment out in like a day? I just don't want to take a bunch of hydrometer samples and use up what I got in there.

Rise in heat as a gauge for fermentation activity?

Ok. I think something is wrong. I am doing the Bee Cave Brewery Kölsch recipe. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f62/bee-cave-brewery-koelsch-33548/ I had previously posted about not having airlock activity and was told to ignore it. Understandable...

What is the norm for airlock activity?

I have heard of people getting a stuck fermentation. I know I don't have that but how would you know? Would you have to wait the 3 weeks before you could find out with a hyrdometer reading? It seems like a lot of time wasted if it stopped pretty much from the beginning.

What is the norm for airlock activity?

Thanks!! I was getting worried. I will take a reading when I see a stop in activity to see what is up. Yeah, I am thinking either way I will do all my beers 3 weeks in primary and 1 week in the keg before tapping. Now, I will just need to setup a pipeline of waiting beers so I have no lag...

What is the norm for airlock activity?

I am on my 3rd brew. This is a Kolsch. I am using white labs WLP029 Kolsch yeast. I did not do a starter. I oxygenated by stirring for 1min. I pitched on Sunday and got fermentation on Tues. It was bubbling away like every 4sec. After that it has slowly started to decrease. Wed. was...

    Hydrometer sample smells fruity

Ok..Another panic thread from a newbie. This is my first Biab and 2nd brew. I did the fizzy yellow beer recipe: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f62/fizzy-yellow-beer-120939/ Today is day 11. The airlock slowed down to like 1 bubble every minute for the past couple of days. I figured I would...

    Did I contaminate my Beer?

Thanks! Yeah, it was just plain tap water. Now, I can rest a little easier.

    Did I contaminate my Beer?

I just finished brewing my first BIAB. Everything went well. I poured the wort into my fermenter bucket with spigot. I needed to ferment it at 62F. So, I tried the swamp cooler idea. I placed the bucket in the water. Put on the airlock. I tested the airlock by pushing on the lid a...

Need some help with my keg

Thanks for the info. I actually used a precision screwdriver. It worked out great. Talked with the guy at the brew shop. He said the keg could be a Spartanburg Challenger but did not know for sure. So, I'll just let it go. It works.

Need some help with my keg

Ok..one more question. I previously bought a replacement pack of o-rings. How do you get the o-rings off of the Keg Posts? I can't seem to get anything up underneath the old o-ring to pull it off.
