Help w/ BIAB Basket Mesh Sizing (400v600v800)

That's a good point. I do have a dip tube that sucks from pretty low but I suppose the sediment could pile up away from it. I'll have to play around with it once I actually get brewing. Maybe I can agitate it with a stir bar and a magnet if it ends up being a problem. The guys from the brew...

Help w/ BIAB Basket Mesh Sizing (400v600v800)

I am in the process of switching over to eBIAB. Need to finish my garage brewery renovation before I can brew, so note that I have not tested what I am about to describe. I designed my system with a 400 micron basket and got 4 of the j hook hangers that suspend the basket over the kettle (see...

Would this work as a grain mill motor?

http://delaware.craigslist.org/tls/5155377798.html From what I've read, this seems to be close to the appropriate RPM and torque.

    Epoxy Garage Flooring

I did some more research on this. the leveler can't be applied more than 1.5 inches thick. Even though it is extremely strong, I'm not going the abrasion route. I got muriatic acid, which you wash over the concrete to open up the pores and get a good bond with the epoxy.

    Brew Boss Systems

Thanks! I'll take you up on that. I can't wait to brew on it. I am planning to start a separate build thread since the only BB component is the controller and element (don't want to draw the conversation from true BB users) but wanted to wait until i was further along in my brewery rebuild...

    Brew Boss Systems

It's hard to compare the exact cost difference, as I opted for some upgraded parts/fittings/welds/etc., but i can tell you I spent $373 (+ many hours of online research) more than what I would've spent on buying the 20 gallon pre-configured deluxe system w/ COFI. That includes shipping.

Brad, Just a heads up... I posted to the Facebook page asking about a sale and was told the next one would be Black Friday.

    Epoxy Garage Flooring

Jeremy, thanks for starting this thread. I am in the same boat. Schematix, thanks for the helpful info. I am about to use self leveling cement in my garage to get the floor evened out. I was thinking of doing a 2-part epoxy after that. Should I still look to do etching or abrasion on the...

    Brew Boss Systems

Good point. Though I opted for drilled holes instead of a handle so I'll have to use the lynch regardless. Amongst other benefits, the big selling point for me was getting the max grain capacity possible and getting it as low as possible in the kettle to accommodate 5 gal batches.

    Brew Boss Systems

Yea. I thought I would've had more space than I did. I'm not sure their measurement includes the thickness of the side supports. Make sure to measure you're inner kettle diameter. The filter was pricey but i can't argue, it is custom designed exactly to my kettle. I also got 4 of the hangers so...

    Brew Boss Systems

I did do a custom sized basket. My kettle is a 20 gallon, 15.75" diameter kettle. It is 25 inches tall. https://www.brewershardware.com/20-Gallon-TC-Fitted-Boil-Kettle-with-Tangential-Inlet-and-Temperature-Port.html Here are the order details for my basket: BIAB: 15" Diameter x 20.25" Tall...

Thanks again. I was planning to do something similar. I am going to be drilling smaller holes in the side arms on the top, as well.

Merlin, one more quick question. What size holes did you drill in yours? Not the one for the screw but the holes that wort comes out of.

Great tip! I was thinking about that being a potential issue. My former tippy dump system used to get grain bits in the sparge ring all the time. Huge PITA. Thanks for saving me the trouble. :mug:

400 micron. Here's what I came up with for the sparge assembly. I just need to solder it and it should be good to go. Ordered the Brew Boss controller and element over the weekend. That's the last piece of the puzzle.

Got the custom basket from Utah biodiesel/arbor fab today! Fits like a glove. Those guys were super helpful getting this put together. Going to try to fabricate the sparge assembly now.
