    Big Beer! - Fermenting Times

I started out with 3 Brewer's Best kits. EPA, Imperial Stout and Amber Cerveza. All turned out good with my favorite being the amber. However, if you're looking for variety, you can order recipe kits from northernbrewer.com or austinhomebrew.com...

    What's your Rubicon?

Well, can't say any one batch in particular finalized my addiction to this hobby. However, the Double IPA I just bottled yesterday definitely helped. Perfectly clear, tasted great and was very hoppy (as it should be). I hadn't been all that pleased with the hop profiles of the previous...

    just tried Molson's Blue Moon

Had one at Industry on Friday. Have had plenty of them before, but they are still nice because it often the only beer on tap beside the normal BMC stuff.

Ahh. Have you taken a gravity reading?

    Big Beer! - Fermenting Times

Can't help you except for saying that my brewing buddy brewed that kit as his first beer. I assume you used the Nottingham dry yeast included with the kit. If so, you'll be fine. He did 1 week in primary, 1 in secondary and then 3 in bottles. Beer turned out great, better than most of my...

    Scum

I thought this was gonna be a thread about Britney Spears :( On topic, what sort of scum are you talking about? I honestly wouldn't worry about it at all. The only thing I've ever scooped out of the wort during the boil has been when I accidentally charred some LME. I scooped out all the...

Hippies ruin all the fun in the world

Hmm.....I bet these same people that are protesting for the "respectful" treatment of dead fish are the same people that don't mind the butcher-like treatment of a dead fetus.... Yeah, I went there :) (I lean pro-choice by the way, just think that there is too much hypocrisy in "activism"...

    Dry Hopping

If you rock the carboy very gently once a day, the hops will fall faster. Don't slosh anything around, but you'll be able to see the hop particles falling immediately after you rock it.

    turkey fryer

Ok, maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it seems you're getting defensive..... I don't think anyone's post was to dog on your turkey fryer. :mug:

    Planning beer-day schedule

Wow, you guys mean business.... My brewdays include setting up, putting some swill on ice to drink while brewing, boiling and sitting around for an hour bullsh*tting with a buddy of mine until it's done. For me it's all about relaxation (and a good reason to get a buzz going early in the...

    Planning beer-day schedule

You pretty much have it right on with this: "The to do list is: Bottle the Rubber Pail Ale (currently in glass carboy) Rack the Hefeweizen from the plastic fermenter bucket to a carboy Boil an apricot ale" In order to transfer to the secondary, you have to make room. To make room you...

How long to wait to drink beer after having wisdom teeth pulled?

Yeah, the primary risk is drug interaction. I drank 2 days after my surgery, mainly because I never had to take pain medication. Smoking afterwards, on the other hand, was not smart...... :(

    Dry Yeast

Yes, dried yeast packets come with a high enough cell count to negate the need for a starter. Rehydrate and pitch.

Tasers ? / Direct Energy Weapons

Well, being bored before my buddy comes over for a brewing session later, I googled this guy's SN. All I can say is that this guy needs some serious help. He posts his paranoid blabber on thousands of forums. Strange cookie....

    Worst brewing wound

I use one of these: http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?cPath=178_53_148&products_id=1079 While the carboy could still break, it won't be right up against my body when it does. Makes life 100 times easier when transfer/bottling days come around. Worst wound for...

    Airlocks and blowoff tubes

It's the same as with a bucket. At least with a carboy you can tell in advance whether your fermentation is going to be violent enough to require a blowoff tube. If the krausen isn't threatening to rise into the neck of the carboy, a airlock is fine. You can use a blowoff tube, as well...
