    oxiclean vs. one step

Yeah, that's the stuff. I bought the stain remover free type, but I don't think it makes much of a difference.

    Dos Equis Amber

For a Mexican beer, it's decent for sure. I'll drink it over the green bottles anyday. One of my favorite beers that I've brewed was a Brewer's Best Mexican Amber. Simple kit, and a great tasting beer for a boxed kit.

    oxiclean vs. one step

Well, the tub I got came with a little scoop. I use maybe 1/3 of scoop to clean my buckets and carboys. Doesn't take much.

    oxiclean vs. one step

I use Oxiclean. No problems with haze or residue :drunk: I always rinse after cleaning, even when I used to use onestep.

Is it OK to use plastic buckets after primary fermentation?

It's no more difficult at all besides having to handle glass rather than plastic. I've never once even had to use my carboy brush. It's rusting by its lonesome out on the shelves in my garage.

Is it OK to use plastic buckets after primary fermentation?

Oxyclean isn't a sanitizer, it's strictly a cleaner. Put it in the nastiest looking carboy or bucket and it will clean it right up.

    AHBS' Double Chocolate Stout

Well, he's looking at the extract kit, which includes extract and specialty steeping grains that come shipped in the grain bag. He's not doing the mini-mash, so that's irrelevant.

    AHBS' Double Chocolate Stout

If you order the extract kit (and the recipe requires specialty steeping grains), they will ship the grains in the ready-to-steep bag. In fact, the product description says so. The mini-mash ones specifically say they DO NOT come with the bags. The extract kits DO. Not sure what...

    Beer Homework

Damn Brewproject, where you gettin' all of these beers? Been spending some time at the Flying Saucer?

    AHBS' Double Chocolate Stout

To be honest with you, my buddy and I brew in my driveway and don't ever feel that hot. We get a good breeze and shade sitting on lawn chairs in the garage :) Sloshing at that point would actually help aerate the wort. I brew over at my friend's house sometimes and bring the bucket back...

    hef problems?

Hefeweizens are one of the easiest types to brew, don't know what your buddy was talking about. They are pretty forgiving, just watch fermentation temps. Higher the temps, the more banana/clove flavoring you'll get, IIRC. Also, they are good because they taste the best fresh. Meaning you...

    AHBS' Double Chocolate Stout

Also, if you don't mind making a starter or using a couple packets of nottingham dried yeast, you should brew AHS's Cannonball Stout. Now that's a beer..... My brewing buddy made that one a couple of months ago.

Austinhomebrew.com Flat Tire 1% alcohol increase?

Just in case someone ever wants to know.... Think this is the 1% increase given the price and product description: http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?cPath=178_21_73_404&products_id=10137

    AHBS' Double Chocolate Stout

I hope to brew in a couple weeks, but realistically I'm probably looking at September sometime. I'll be leaving for Vegas early on the 27th and get back on the 30th. Also, if you want to try brewing on a turkey fryer before buying one, feel free. I'll provide the driveway, turkey fryer...

    AHBS' Double Chocolate Stout

No problem. Don't know much more than that I connected the product to the additive for the recipe kits. When you brewing next? I got a few weeks until the next brewday, but we should schedule one soon.

    AHBS' Double Chocolate Stout

Well, given the product description and the identical price, I think it's this: http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?cPath=178_21_73_404&products_id=10137 Just my guess :)

Is it OK to use plastic buckets after primary fermentation?

I don't find carboys much harder to clean than plastic buckets. Fill 1/3 with water, swish around, dump out. Then put in a small amount of oxyclean, let sit for an hour and done. My last beer was a double IPA with 2 ounces of hops dry hopped. Cleanup wasn't any harder than normal.

    My First Brew Ever!!!!

No, it only requires a fairly dilluted bleach/water mix. Not 25 litres of straight bleach.

    creamy until settles

I thought Malto-Dextrin helped give it a creamy head.

First attemp at a starter...mistake made?

Why make a starter for dried yeast? Seems like more work than it's worth.
