Will America's beer reputation ever improve?

Also off topic. Summit is expanding, Surly is building a new $20+ million brewery. Most micros around here keep expanding. I guess we get really thirsty shoveling and swatting mosquitos.

Will America's beer reputation ever improve?

I guess it begs the question what's taking so long for europeans to have the same explosion of microbreweries that the U.S. has had. Ours being driven by the massive amount of crap being forced down our throats. Rebellion ensued. Europe's baseline was so much better, but still, where are all the...

    Extra Hard Lemonade

This question has probably been answered somewhere on these threads. I was wondering if anybody had pitched onto a belgian yeast cake or cider cake? I have both. Should i wash the yeast? Add some nutrient? Wine soaked raisins keep dancing in my head. I'm in the process of tapping a few maple...

    Hopback 101

Yelling at your hops makes them more volatile. Har. Also he fondles the air tube with both hands, then right into the wort. That would be a no-no at my house. Way to rock the brew house! Nice vid.

Homebrewing myths that need to die

    Ferocious ipa from midwest

i've done that kit 4 times, the first was extract which was good, the next 3 were all grain. the all grain batches were much better. its a fun receipe because of the hop additions(dividing the blend into cups, etc). all those late hop additions really make that beer sing. plus its nice to do a...

2013's How many gal of homebrew in 2013

just found this thread, do i add all the beer i've brewed this year? seems to be mainly 5 gals added to total at a time. does that mean everybody is logging in every time they brew? that almost resembles work.

    Why do you homebrew?

Camaraderie(did i spell that right? looks wrong). Creativity- making something complex from four basic things. The Challenge- building new equipment. brewing correctly. The sense of inner peace knowing i have 100 gallons of beer in my basement.

    Brewing with maple sap?

I've brewed with syrup a few times with good results, a wheat and a belgian ale. Syrup end of boil, secondary and a squirt at bottling. Boiling down the straight sap is a great idea as i think it would not give you enough flavor otherwise. I just got my tapping equipment so i'm heading out to...

so what's the worst part of brewing for you

i would clean a hundred dry hopped carboys to go back in time and not brew last night. one primary(lager!) infected while doing the rest. a massive overflow on my gravity sparge, onto my carpet. my poindextered portable march pump WOULD NOT PRIME! URGH! after 20 minutes i was puling my moustache...
