Do you have your temperature probed connected? The temperature of the probe will have to go below the cooling set point before it provides power to your electrical outlet.

Just a thought but maybe the red wire to the compressor is sized bigger because the compressor runs hot. Heat will effect wire sizing.

I would think black and red should be the same gauge of wire. Don't know why its installed that way but that's where the multimeter or non contact voltage tester would come in handy. You could plug in the power cord and carefully check which wire had power going to it. Splicing the white wire...

If you have access to an multimeter or an Non Contact Voltage Tester you could verify for sure which is the main feed but according to the drawing it is the black wire.

From the schematic it appears that the white wire is neutral coming from your power cord. You will have to splice into it before it goes into compressor and attach to #2 on the STC-1000. Your black wire which is the hot coming in from your power cord will need to go to #1 (power in) and #7...

I use the 7" L x 5" W x 3" D project box from Radio shack and it works fine.
