    Not your typical infection thread...

dump! why even take a chance? sounds like you left it in a sealed container meaning it had limited exposure to airborne wild yeasts but would have been a good environment for bacteria to multiply. I think its possible to get a botulism infection which can make you really sick. .

Stainless dry hopper retrieval in corny keg

no, havent sunk it yet but i will be using it next weekend and want to be prepared. seems the dental floss idea may let some co2 leak out. did this actually work for you without any leaks? thanks. was actually thinking about drilling a hole in the small lid extension where the valve is...

Stainless dry hopper retrieval in corny keg

I just bought this excellent product from Chad and I want to know if anyone has any suggestions on how to retrieve it after a few weeks of dry hopping in my corny keg. I don't think it floats and it looks difficult to "fish out" with a coat hanger or something. I also read someone uses magnets...

Help! Gelatin killed my head retention

Looks like I was able to force carb a head back into my beer after 1.5 days at 35 psi it looks good to go.I still wonder why the head completely disappeared after my gelatin addition; im quite sure it was carbonated with good head retention beforehand. maybe im just crazy. oh well, next time...

Help! Gelatin killed my head retention

Sorry, forgot to mention that I had the beer carbonated before the gelatin addition and there was plenty of head retention, as there normally is after I force carb. Another thing that may be worth mentioning is that I accidentally froze this beer (~20 deg F) for a few days after the gelatin...

Help! Gelatin killed my head retention

I added approx 1 tablespoon of gelatin to 5 gallons of cold (40 deg F) kegged, force carbed, belgium tripel. After drawing off my first few pints, its carbonated, crystal clear, and tastes fantastic but there is no head at all;makes it look like sparkling wine or something. Never realized...

whats the worst brewing accident you have witnessed or been a part of?

Was trying to pop the inflated bag inside a party pig after I left it sitting outside for a week in a Texas summer (I know, I know). Took one puncture with a pen before it blew with such force that my ears were ringing.also covered me with nasty, hot oatmeal stout. Another one with the party...

    Stainless Steel Hop Ball Issue

I've taken to using nylon bags recently and I've been picking them up during the boil (attached with a nylon string) and squeezing them with tongs. I always had my chill plate clogged by pellet hops until I started using the bags.

    need advice with oak/vanilla addition

I have a pretty big imperial stout (1095) that I'm getting ready to rack soon on top of 3 oz of oak chips soaked in dark rum with 4 vanilla beans and I want to know if yall think I should sanitize this or if it's even necessary. my concern is if I sanitize (by pressure cooker) that a lot of...

    Wort Chiller Upgrade?

i recently used the shirron for the very first time; gravity fed. i was very impressed. wort came out almost as fast as it came in but 135 degrees cooler! took me about 10 minutes to chill a 5 gal batch. totally worth it since my last immersion chiller was a PITA.

    flip-open kegerator

ah yes...it was called the Portland tap. The reason being is that I keep my chest freezer in a place where I don't want taps sticking out of the top or sides. although the keezer looks awesome. plus i like to whole stealthy, hidden tap look. kinda like a bookcase hiding the secret lair...or...

    flip-open kegerator

i had a relatively recent issue of Zymurgy or another mag where it highlighted a project someone made. It was a kind of flip open beer dispenser made on the underside of a lid of a chest freezer. The key was that the taps were installed on the flipping part so they would stay in the freezer...

Best and/or Worst Brewing Gadgets You've Ever Purchased

best but not necessarily necessary: the beer gun. it just looks cool and it has the word gun in it. worst: phils fly sparging arm. used it once then went to batch sparging like most others. pretty much useless. btw, anyone looking to buy this from me? PM me...I sure know how to sell...
