    Wort Chiller problems

Immersion chillers don't "put out" room temperature wort. When you say it "put out" wort it makes it sound like you were using a counterflow chiller. Immersion chillers are simply a coil of copper tubing with cold water running through it that is "immersed" in the hot wort and cool the entire...

    Light LME vs. "Pilsner" LME

On the morebeer.com website they have the following 2 kinds of LME: German Pils Extract - "this light blond extract is 100% made from Durst brand German Pilsner malt." Ultralight Extract - "by Alexanders this extract is 100% made from Great Western 2-row malt. It is the lightest malt...

Make sure you don't skip that diacetyl rest!!!!!

I just drink a 12 pack of Rolling Rock and then take a **** into a glass and serve that to my friends.

adding LME the last 20 minutes

This past weekend I bought a vaccuum sealer appliance and measured and sealed up several pounds of hops I got from Freshhops.com. Me and several friends in assembly line fashion weighing and bagging pounds of bright green plant matter. I wonder what the nighbors would have thought?!?

Racked into Secondary tried tasting, didnt taste much alcohol...

1.040 is a low O.G. There won't be much alcohol in this brew. With 75% attenuation your F.G. should be close to 1.010, pretty darn light. As long as it doesn't taste sweet and you are close to your F.G. you are ok.

lots of hops, low boil times

Oh and if you are going for hop flavor/aroma, use something other than Amarillo. Use Goldings or Saaz or Tettnanger or Hallertauer or Sorachi or something with a nice aroma and flavor. I guess some people like the aroma of Amarillo or Simcoe or Cascades but to me I could only use those as...

lots of hops, low boil times

My point being that adding a ton of hops in a shorter boil will give you a lot of hop flavor and aroma, but very little bitterness. If this is what you are after, then go for it, but it will be difficult to brew varieties of beer that have certain amounts of bitterness with a shorter boil that...

    Barleywine Fermentation, oh my!

What the frack guys. I have never had to use a blowoff tube EVER and I brew 6 gallon batches with vigorous fermentation in 6.5 gallon carboys all the time.

lots of hops, low boil times

Hop bittering oils do not dissolve in water until isomerized by a longer boil.

    Custom Removable Labels

How do you affix your labels to the bottle? I'm thinking you want them to be easily removed if you are considering re-using the bottle.

    First Batch Tasting

Well dag nabbit and call me a frog leg. SNPA used to taste way better though.

    Sierra Nevada

Are the hops in SNPA Perle or Cascade?
  13. B

    First Batch Tasting

WHAT??? I thought SNPA was the classic Perle taste!?!? I hate Cascades and love SNPA.

    First Batch Tasting

I read that Anchor Steam uses Cascades, which is probably why I can't stand it.

    Sierra Nevada

I notice there is no perle in those recipes.

    Yeast Starters??

I'll try a bigger starter. I never worry much about aeration and it sounds like what you are saying is that aeration is only required to make up for under-pitching? FYI: I made a 1068 strong pale ale recently and using my "day of" starter method from a Wyeast smack pack it fermented down to...

    Amazing new 'speed' brewing technique

I used unboiled tap water and the beer tastes great! I don't notice any chlorine in the flavor. If the tap water tastes good on it's own the beer will too. It takes me 3 hours max to brew a 5 gallon batch.

    Dry-Hemping

Neither is Lupulin in hops. Apparently extended boiling isomerizes the hop oils, allowing them to dissolve in water. Perhaps the same process would work for THC? Also, I have heard that isomerized THC is far more potent.

    Yeast Starters??

Thanks man, you got me hooked on the idea of bigger starters. I like dryer beers and higher attenuation sounds good!!!

    Barleywine Fermentation, oh my!

Most likely scenario is that the bucket will explode, sending razor sharp shards of plastic flying in all directions at an unimaginable speed. Your house will be destroyed and it will kill you and all life within about a half mile. Let us know how it tastes!
