    Stir Plate Problems

So the way to do it is just have the vortex barely hitting the stir bar. Now the airlock was just there to keep things quiet while I was cranking it. I was going to cover it with foil. Can I just take the airlock out and leave hole open or just loosely cover that as well. Can I just buy a...

    Stir Plate Problems

So this is how I ended up, do you guys think its enough or should I try some of the other power supplies I have around? Sorry for the crappy video but it does the job. I may try to make another one with some more spare parts if I can get it to work with my 2 inch bar. And thanks again to...

    Stir Plate Problems

I just stopped into ACE hardware and they have a ton of different magnets I picked up a six pack of small ones and they are every bit as strong if not stronger than the hard drive magnets. I'm going to try to get these to help out what I have on there now as the hard drive magnet is cured to the...

    Stir Plate Problems

I figured I'd update this a little bit. I scavenged a computer for it's magnets and I have my 1 inch bar working good. It pulls a vortex all the way to the bottom and shoots air bubbles all over the place. But I think since my magnets are a smaller then the flat spot on the fan my 2 inch bar...

    Stir Plate Problems

So I've made the step up to making starters. I've got most of my stir plate done but I'm wondering what you guys are doing for magnets. I got some magnets from work but hey don't seem to be strong enough. Question 1 is where are you guys getting these magnets locally? Question 2 what strength...

What is wrong with my MLT?

I have a barb on the inside of my tun nad I cut a piece of tubing that just cleared the barb and slid the braid over the top of it. It locks on very well cause it turns into chinese finger handcuff and it holds very well no need for clamps or anything else to rust

    Do I need more pot?

I guess most partial mashes are done like deathbrewer's method not closer to the all-grain style with a cooler. I got the 5 gallon industrial igloo for free and converted it over very cheaply. I'm really just looking to get rid of the wheat extract I have without just thowing it in the brewpot...

    Do I need more pot?

It's definately not gonna be fun for the first half hour or so it looks like it's probably going to be a 90 minute boil with the heavier rolling boil during the last 40-45 minutes. I think I can handle it I've done 6.5 gallons and was able to keep it going pretty good. I'll update the thread...

    Do I need more pot?

You are correct I'm just stressing I need to RDWHAHB. Beersmith is saying 60 min Mash In Add 7.19 qt of water, which is less than 2 gallons(1.8 gallons to be exact), and Sparge Water: 5.14 gallons. So that should be fine with around 7 gallons after absorbtion to boil. I'll just have to be...

    Do I need more pot?

I've currently brewed 4 extract brews with steeping grains and I hope I'm ready to make the jump to at least partial mash. I made a recipe up in beersmith and was wondering if my 32 quart pot is going to cut it. I've also converted a 5 gallon cooler with a SS braid for my tun but I'm still a...

    Newbie Questions PM to AG

I've been drinking good beer for a long time and have decided to try and make my own. I've got 4 extract brews with steeping grains under my belt so far and I'm looking to get more control. I have a kit for a wheat beer and it just lacked what I thought would be a good beer(2 cans of muntons and...

    Storing sanitizer (starsan or iodophor)

I'm sure someone else will chime in but I read somewhere on here that if you use distilled water it maintains the ph better for longer. So i picked some up to give it a shot

Need to get more beer out while racking

I picked up the autsiphon but I haven't used it yet. I am worried about one thing. It's gonna be a pretty close fit with my glass carboy so I'm not sure how much I wil be able to move it around in the carboy. I also have a better bottle that it should work perfectly because the mouth of better...

Need to get more beer out while racking

Thanks for all the help. I was looking at the auto-siphon and it seemed to work very well. I do tilt the carboy when moving to the bottling bucket or secondary. So at least I was half way there

Need to get more beer out while racking

I'm using this racking cane right now and it works ok, but I want to try to get more beer out of my carboys. Sterile Siphon Starter - For 5 and 6 Gallon Carboys | MoreBeer It seems to work really well for the beginning of the process but once I get down to the end it just plain sux. If I lose...
