    Historical Ales

Here are some more pictures after primary fermentation. I lost a lot of volume but more on the two hopped varients. I racked them after 14 days. I'll probably bottle them this week. I really like the color of the three. The two hopped varients have a pale look like a normal pilsner. The...

    Historical Ales

Actually, I have no idea. I know they used to brew with eggs in the past but don't really know what it adds to the brew. Breakfast beer?

    Historical Ales

Yep, that's where I got the idea! I looked around online and couldn't find that anybody had actually brewed it, so hey why not right? pg. 281 - Stone beer. I think it's worth a try.

    Historical Ales

I let it sit overnight open and then put airlocks on them this morning. The foam would have just blown them off if I put them on overnight anyway. But some of the stuff I read about Devon White Ale said to let it sit 12 hours in an open container before you pitch yeast. I pitched and then let...

    4 Meads

Answered on page 1 :) Here's a brief overview of my technique/experiment. I have 3 approx. 1.5 liter glass apple juice bottles that I saved. I made 3 identical batches of mead and pitched WLP720 - sweet mead yeast into all 3. In the meantime I froze 16 oz. strawberries, 12 oz. blueberries...

    4 Meads

for each of the fruits I froze them in a ziploc bag, thawed them in the fridge, and froze them again. It made a surprising amount of juice! As for the mutant blueberries, I live in Texas... everything bigger in Texas :) got them from the grocery store!

    4 Meads

yeeeeah, I'm ok with that. I'm going to bottle them in those little 7 ounce bottles so hopefully it'll last a little bit. This was my special experiment a little bit outside my normal beer brewing.

    airlock overflowith

it's not necessarily the pressure if you have an airlock, it's that all the precious mead will overflow onto the floor! If you can open it and let a couple ounces of must out you might create enough headspace to stop the overflow. Either way, you should pull off the airlock, clean and sanitize...

    Rhizomes for sale

I am also interested, I've been reading up on growing hops and I'm hoping to get some going this year. I've read that Cascade, Magnum, and Nugget are good "beginner's hops" because of their ease of growth and resistance to disease. Does anybody have any experience with that?
