    Beer Tasting

I was in NYC over the holidays and was able to buy some beers that I could not get up here: Magic Hat 9, deadguy ale and sam adams boston lager. I was disappointed in the magic hat and boston lager - the hops didnt agree with me. I could barley drink the magic hat. I managed a few boston...

    Hello from Canuckistan

I think I remember that the beer stores didnt want to take the returns, and therefore the govnt made the recycling premium add too much cost to the beer. (or made it unlawful to sell without a separate recycling program) If you have a monopoly, and are getting feed by big business, it is...

    Hello from Canuckistan

A few years ago I went t the Beer Festival downtown T.O. It mainly featured Cdn micros. One complaint I heard from several owners was that the Ontario owned Beer Store would not allow the micros into the store since they wouldn't accept their bottles for deposit...I think this was a combo of...

    Hello from Canuckistan

Welcome aboard! I recommend going for a simpler set up to start. You can always add more as needed. Brew pot: go with something bigger, 7.5-8 gallon range it will save u $ in the long run when you switch to full boils of 5.5+ gallons. I would avoid the US stores because of brokerage...

    Amazing new 'speed' brewing technique

You know that you can use the filter a few times....When its done, pop out, and put back in. It will reset itself. I reused one 4 times once, and the water still had zero Chlorine smell. Cheers.

    1st Lager Fermentation - Questions

I agree with all of the above. #4: Some debate about this one...people say that the makers of yeast print this info so that their yeast will start faster at and appear more vigorous but sacrifices some taste. I cannot say either way for sure. My Safalger 23 was almost finished in about 6 days...

When formulating a new recipe, I...

I use Clone Brews book and and a sample of store bought beer as homework. I love the book since it I can extrapolate the various flavours from the recipes and suit to my own tastes (hops, ABV, ect.). I will then go to Promash to figure out the final part of the recipe. I brew in 11-12 gallon...
