    question about the wort

You can, but the longer you leave it without pitching your yeast the biggest the risk something wild starts growing in there. If you do leave it, make sure it's sealed up nice and tight.

    SMaSH help

For my first one I modified/copied the recipe from the podcast video. I brewed essentially a double batch from what they described and used the yeast I had on hand: Water and Grains/Extract 2.5 gal distilled water 2.5 lb Briess Pilsen no specialty grains OG 1.054 Hops (Comes out...

    SMaSH help

Absolutely you can brew a 1 gallon batch, and many people do as experimental batches just as your describing. As to fermentation in a growler - that depends on how big your growlers are. You have to remember to leave headspace for the krausen / and or use a blow off tube. For the yeast...

    Immersion chiller issue

You could do any of those - I'd try widening the diameter of the coils first and/or pushing them together vertically. If you do try to bench the coils in a arc over the tube, be careful not to kink it.

The Cannman Diary: A Beginner's Journey In Home Brewing

Bubbles aren't always a the best indicator of fermentation. You did see some, so that's a good sign, but now you just have to relax and trust the yeast to do their job. Cheers! :mug:

Recipe Critique - Strawberry Blueberry Blonde

So I wanted to make an America themed beer to celebrate Independence Day this year. The idea I came up with was a ""Red, White and Blue"" Ale using only US ingredients which I shall call 'Meric-Ale. For the "red" - strawberries, for the "blue" - blueberries, and for the "white", since I couldnt...

    Post your infection

Hey guys, I just dry hopped with pellets for the first time, opened up the fermentor and found this pulp-looking stuff. I was wondering if anyone's seen this before / knows what it is. It definitely has an off odor, so I'm guessing its something funky growing in there Good or bad idea...

    Dry Hopping Walkthrough

Thanks for the write up! I've noticed you and a few other sources use the nylon bags. I'm wondering if I can use some extra muslin bags I have laying around? Or would those be too porous and let pellet fragments escape?

    Pumpkin Ale Recipe - Thoughts?

Of the 9 beers I've brewed thusfar, the Pumpkin Ale I made is easily my favorite and my recipe was similar to yours, but as the other guys suggested, less hops. I only had 2 oz total (1oz @60 and 1oz @10 min). The Libby's is what I think makes this beer. I used the "pure pumpkin" as opposed to...

    Oatmeal stout recipe help

I wish I had asked this very question before I brewed my oatmeal stout. I actually just opened the first bottle about 10 minutes ago! I did almost no research on the recipe, but ended up steeping 2lb of crushed flaked oats in with the other specialty grains. It ended up just making a big bag of...

    Flat beer (so far)

To quote Monty Python "Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three." - 3 weeks is the magic number for conditioning in bottles. Check again next week, and if you mixed in the priming sugar well, it should be carbonated by then.

    Bye Bye Stir Bar

Fun little fact for you all about clogged garbage disposals - *WARNING* make sure you unplug the disposal first! - there's a hex bolt on the underside of most disposals; if you put an Allen wrench in there and turn it back and forth a few times, it manually turns the disposal, and hopefully...

    Bye Bye Stir Bar

And that's why I just ordered 2 more from Amazon. I will indeed be doing that ... tomorrow. Especially since the disposal is currently incapacitated by the lodged stir bar. My only concern with using the recovered stir bar would be infection. I saw a few posts on here where people were...

    Bye Bye Stir Bar

I recently made a DIY stir plate from a usb fan . I tested it last night with water and pepper to make sure it would work well and hold up to a night of work. Everything worked perfectly. So tonight I start boiling the wort for my starter, sanitize my jar, get everything all ready to go...
