    Cutting Kegs

I used a plasma cutter to cut my keg and the dross on the edges is pretty hard to clean up. Next time I will use the angle grinder method.

Got a welder, now the fun begins...

Hmm, I know its stainless but it seems like safety wire would be a different alloy. It seems much softer than filler rod or even mig wire. C141b Starlifters had A good bit of the stuff in them.

I think you could back it down to 12 to 15 pretty safely especially since I seem to remember you have a gas lense. That's where I run mine with no lense.

Got a welder, now the fun begins...

I use the flowmeter to shut it off but an extra valve would be a good idea. It would have prevented me from walking around the shop for a half hour while I wasted a bunch of argon

AHA!! Now you are getting to the fun part. I made some special brass fittings using some silicon bronze filler when I couldn't find exactly what I wanted in the hardware store. They came out great didn't leak even though it was my first time welding that stuff.

Ed Thats the one. I found that listing on the net but was afraid they would send the one on the left so I didnt order it. I think that airgas was cheaper anyway.l You need to walk into those places. They get busy and forget about phone calls.

I would be interested in seeing pics of your purges. I figured that if I ever found a keg I could afford I would purge the whole keg, but that's a few cubic feet of gas that I could save and it seems to go fast when back purging anyway.

Official 2010 "Pay it Forward" Thread

Heck if I come up with something in July that I don't need I will hunt up this thread and post it. This is the greatest thing I have ever heard of.

Clamps, lots of Bessy quick adjust and Kant twist (sp) clamps. If every storage space in your shop is filled with clamps then you might be getting close to having enough. Here is what I am talking about for anyone interested...

Got a welder, now the fun begins...

Yeah and it's a little cold at the beginning where he fed the filler in and it cooled the puddle but that comes with practice. I think it will help by getting the tungsten closer to the work.

Got a welder, now the fun begins...

I am no expert by any means but it looks to me like you MAY be a little far away with your tungsten. That tends to spread out the concentration of heat and heats up the surrounding metal more.

Got a welder, now the fun begins...

I welded up a cart to hold my bottles and two welders and by the time I had the stand done I was most of the way to not thinking about the pedal anymore. I thought I would post a pic of my backpurge setup. I thought that if would give me more control over a straight splitter even...

Got a welder, now the fun begins...

For welding in AC mode the way you sharpened the tungsten was good but in dc mode I find a sharp point focuses the arc better. I ordered a "T" from the local welding shop that connects to the bottle and bought a cheap flowmeter off of ebay to supply backgassing. I was afraid that with a "T"...

    Is this worth the money?

Wow, every kit I have bought so far has had some grains in it to steep for 30 minutes. So i have been doing partial mash and didn't even know it.

    Is this worth the money?

    Is this worth the money?

Good deal post back about the condition and such. And definitely let me know about deals you find. We get down to Louisville once in a while, this month is obviously busy but I might convince swmbo that there is some shopping that absolutely cant be done anywhere else.

    Wort chiller question

If the spray head is built in to the main faucet then there would be no threads to hook to. If the spray head is a separate thing off to the side then you can unscrew the aerator (little round ring hanging down from the end of the faucet) and attach a faucet hose adapter. I was confused at first...

    Is this worth the money?

Yeah kegerators turn up constantly but I want a keg. Actually I want a couple or three. Maybe turn one into a fermenter so I can do 10 gallon batches and not have to split them between carboys. I would definitely buy a 50 dollar keg locally but I cant seem to find one for sale. On ebay they...

    Is this worth the money?

I recommend against it! But only because I was thinking about going after it this weekend if he still had it.:D Seriously though go for it looks like a pretty good deal. I have been watching craigslist for a while for an empty keg and thas is the only thing that has come up in a while. I...
