Beer went flat in the bottle?

Hey, you live and you learn. The important thing is that you made another batch! And the good news is bottles are easily obtainable at your local beer store! If you're near Pasadena, I have some unwashed 12oz bottles out in my shed. Need cleaning and labels removed. Probably about a...

Just bought some 3 Gal kegs New I have no kegging experience need some feedback

Thanks for those pix, Gremlyn! I didn't know about the groove in the hex corners. Checked the keg I bought for spacing my bar build and sure enough, there it was. What would happen if you put the posts on backwards, so that the gas in post was on the dip tube? Is it even possible?

    Going to Annapolis, MD....

It might be too late, but Lures Bar and Grill in Crownsville (out past the Mall) has a good selection of hard to find beers and great food. Also, Dawson's Liquors in Severna Park has an outstanding selection of beer.

    fermentation in glass carboy...enough room?

I just always use a blowoff, at least until the bulk of fermentation is done. 9 times out of 10 it doesn't blow off in my 6.5, but that one time I'm glad I have it. Tubing can usually be had at Home Depot or Ace, in addition to your LHBS.

    Hydrometer vs Thermohydrometer

I have one and like it a lot. You do have to wait 10 min or so to let the temperature in the sample equalize with the thermometer itself, since there's a decent amount of mass there.

Planning Coleman Xtreme 70qt MLT Conversion

What I learned is that hacksaws are probably fine, but the thinnest disk I could get for my angle grinder was too wide. Unfortunately I don't have it here to measure.

Planning Coleman Xtreme 70qt MLT Conversion

I didn't really measure it and it's at my friends house, where I brew, but it accepted a 1/2" NPT nipple. We used the Weld less fitting for thick walled, "Extreme" type cooler from greatbargain.net, who, btw, provided excellent service.

Planning Coleman Xtreme 70qt MLT Conversion

The usual braid is probably too small to get over the 1/2" copper, otherwise I'm sure we would have done that. It sure seems like something we would have tried. We have a larger diameter s/s braid that we used over a 1/2" copper hop stopper, but it stopped EVERYTHING. Might be better...

Planning Coleman Xtreme 70qt MLT Conversion

More on braid collapse in case bdavanza is on to your actual problem: we have a copper manifold, on which I used an angle grinder to slot the copper. The slots are too big so what we did is shove the s/s braid up inside the center tube. It doesn't collapse and the thing vorlaufs clean in less...

Planning Coleman Xtreme 70qt MLT Conversion

We've only done one 5 gal brew with it. Otherwise it's been all 10's and even a 15 (partigyle). The one 5 gal brew we did had a fairly hefty grain bill which wasn't a whole lot less than a lighter 10 gal brew. We do have a piece of 2x4 which we have dubbed "The Chunk o' Funkin' Wood" which...

    Heading to Philly, need recommendations

I don't know much about Philly. Only been there a few times, but I've been to Monk's twice and it's pretty awesome. I'll let the Philly people correct me.

    Cold Box Considerations

I've just begun finishing out my basement and have permission from SWMBO for a kegerator. I've been reading all the threads I can find about cold boxes. I'm interested in doing a cold box style powered by either a mini-fridge or mini upright freezer (like a Kenmore 5.0 or maybe 7.2), which...

HELP: left extract at LHBS! Now...

Riclark's idea is probably your best bet as the wort you have is safest with yeast in it rather than being an inviting meal for whatever happens along. Alternately, if you have more base grain, you could do another mash now and add that. However, if you mean Sunday as in the day after...

    ghetto fermentation temperature control

$8 rubbermaid rope-handled bin. Take the rope handles off, b/c if you lift this even half full of water by the handles they'll eventually pull through. Now put your carboy in there. Fill it with water to just below the level of the wort in the carboy. Rotate frozen bottles of water through...

    Rice Hulls

We used them once on an Oatmeal Stout because those are supposed to get sticky. It drained and batch sparged no differently than any of our other brews, which is to say very easily, since we have a combined slotted copper/stainless braid manifold.

    Grain mill?

I have a Valley Mill, which I understand is no longer available, so I can't really comment on what to get, but I would say that the time to get a mill is when you have gone AG and have decided that this is something you're sure you're going to do regularly. For me this was AG batch #2, but...

    Barleywine remains?

Just check the gravity of your non-barleywine runnings and be prepared to adjust the hopping. It'll be some kind of Anglo/American Pale Ale depending on the hops and yeast. You can also "Top Off" the mash with some more specialty grains to make the second beer be darker than the first, to go...
