    Kegging Kit

I use Beverage Factory exclusively for all of my kegging needs.

for all you sanitation freaks! :D

I wouldn't want to drink that. People from there have an immune system that can stomach that. If I tried that, I would be on the pot for a week.

Sanitation w/ Frozen Strawberries in Secondary?

I put strawberries in a sanitized paint strainer bag and then pulled them out when I racked to a keg. Worked great.

    Home Brew Shops in Iowa?

Yep, met the owner and he is a real nice guy and his prices are very competitive. While in Decorah, stop at Toppling Goliath for a beer or three. They are a nano brewery and that is their brew pub.

    Thermopen refurb $69.99

I know that can happen, but not to me. I will be the first to say that the Thermapen is expensive as hell and probably overkill for most people. For me, I love to cook and I find that it is a valuable tool that I use every day so it was worth the extra cost. If you want a Thermapen, then you...

    Thermopen refurb $69.99

I will do my own test tonight since I don't have much of a life. I will be surprised if the QDN is within 5 to 10 seconds of my thermapen.

    Thermopen refurb $69.99

I own both the CDN DTQ450 and two Thermapens. I haven't tried to measure the time it takes, but the CDN DTQ450 is considerably slower than my Thermapens. It seems like the CDN DTQ450 never stops moving when it is trying to read a temp. My Thermapens quickly gets to the temperature reading and...

    Sanitizing on a small scale

I make up a five gallon bucket and keep it for a couple of months before I make new.

Why don't I see people using full size 'traditional' kegs for homebrew?

I recently switched from buying commercial kegs for my kegerator to homebrewing. I like the corny kegs much better than the sanke kegs. I like the fact that you have two connectors for liquid and gas instead of one coupler which often gets tangled up with other lines. The ball lock connectors...

    Thermopen refurb $69.99

Very costly, but the best you can buy. I love the small diameter hole it creates, the speed and the accuracy. I can pull something out of the oven and have the temp checked and back in the oven in under 10 seconds.

    Investing in a wort chiller

Looking at purchasing one soon too. I don't think there is a huge advantage to build your own anymore once you figure in all the costs. You can get a brand new 25 footer with fittings and hosing for $50 shipped, doubt you could build one of similar quality for less than $40.

    Homebrew from a commercial kegerator

I was facing the same problem. Here is what I did, since I don't plan on switching back to commercial kegs. I cut the gas and beer lines to the sanke coupler. If your beer line is 3/16 then it will fit very snugly over the 1/4 inch barb on your liquid out Ball Lock quick disconnect. You may...

What bag do you use for BIAB?

I got the last laundry bag at my bbb. It works perfectly for my needs. The drawstring is great too. It was only $3. Here it is in action on my 9 gallon kettle.

Partial Mash - How much water?

I have an outside propane burner, but don't have a way to cool 5 gallons right now. Plus, I think I might stick with this partial mash for a while. My future goal is to do BIAB as I have a large enough bag now, just need a wort chiller.

Partial Mash - How much water?

I've done a few partial mash kits from AHS. My problem is that they call for 2 gallons of water to mash the 3 pounds of grain. I have a 9 gallon kettle and if I fill with 2 gallons of water, then the water barely covers the grain and the grain is sitting on the bottom of the pot. Can I add...

    Blow off to airlock switch

Ditto. I always keep my blowoff tube on the whole time.

Keeping Hops/Syrup Extract Cold before use...

U need to bring them to room temp the day of or the day before the boil. I even put my extract in hot water before hand so that it is loose and easier to pour.

    BIAB bags at bed bath

Here are a few photos. It fits my 9 gallon kettle in circumference, but is too tall. I just doubled it up on the outside of the pot and used the drawstring to keep it in place. I kept the bag just off the bottom of the pot.

    Thinking about home brewing.

I've heard too many horror stories of people breaking glass carboys while being very careful Seems like some just break for not much of a reason. I don't trust them and thus use buckets or better bottles.
