    Stocking as grainbag

    1st Beer Blues

Check out simple brew sites especially www.howtobrew.com. From experience, the "hopped" can kits are complete bull shizah. To make a decent beer all you need is liquid malt extract/dry malt extract, hops, specialty steeping grains, and yeast. If you already have a fermenter then just buy the...

    Help with my Stout

Maybe you should re attach the airlock and see what happens. There is no harm in waiting a week to see if the batch is REALLY infected or if there is just a suspicion...it takes a lot to infect a batch

Ferment restarted at day 14 in Secondary

I had a "secondary" fermentation in my secondary with my Irish Red Ale that is currently in bottles. Everything tasted OK during the bottlind process. A little extra fermentation in the secondary shouldn't be a problem

Magic Hat--Night of the Living Dead

I've been drinking that variety pack like a champ because its my source of non twist-off bottles. #9 is quite sweet due to the apricot extract...a hit with every beer drinker. I agree that Jinx is a very nice winter brew, probably my favorite. Batch 375 is almost too hoppy, and I'm a hop-head...

    Sierra Nevada

I hear Perle is the main hop in SNPA, which is why I ordered some for my first attempt at my own IPA recipe :)

    Who wants free beer?

Possible problems: (diagnosed by a beginner) not enough hops scorched malt (pouring your LME too quickly into the brewpot) poor fermentation (try a starter next time) just my .02....probably just .01 actually

    Preserving DME

Sounds good, so a ziplock is all I need to keep my DME nice and fresh?

    Preserving DME

I have to break into my plastic bag of DME tonight to make a starter. I don't have a way to vaccum seal the bag so I was wondering how I should seal the bag back up to keep it fresh until this weekend when I brew. Can I wrap the bag up in aluminum foil and stick it all in the fridge? I want to...

    Problem with AHS specialty grain

P.S. sorry to post in the AG/Partial Mash section, I thought I might have to do a mini-mash but I guess I'll just steep

    Problem with AHS specialty grain

Ok, the hulls are cracked...I thought it might just look a bit more ground up than this. Can I use a nylon stocking as a grain bag? The kits that I have bought off AHS before have given me a muslin bag so I thought they might include one with individual grain orders but I guess that was just...

    Problem with AHS specialty grain

So I just got my ingredients to do my first original IPA recipe and I have a slight problem with my grain. I ordered 1lb of Crystal 20L and 8oz of Carapils and asked for the grain to be "milled". Now I thought that meant they would crush the grain for me and ship it in a muslin bag for...

    Steeping Carapils

Does unconverted starch mean that I won't get the full "head retention/body adding" effects of the carapils?
