ahem... "A+" thank you very much. ;)

South Jersey/Philly Group Buy... ROUND 10!

Hey, not sure if anyone's keeping track... I think Jeff started round 1 back in January. That makes close to 23,000 lbs of grains so far this year! (maybe a tad less considering things like rice hulls, hops, etc.) Assuming an average of 35ppg and 75% efficiency, 23,000 lbs of malt would net...

South Jersey/Philly Group Buy... ROUND 10!

I don't brew often enough (not since July actually)... One of the reasons is because I don't plan far enough in advance to order the ingredients in time. I'm trying to change that with this buy. (Also picked up 5lbs of hops from hopsdirect.com.) Here's my rig...

I didn't see anything either... I don't want to miss it and accidentally hold anything up... Will we be getting PM's?

Jeff, I'd like an additional 2x CM-2ROW (4 total). Can you update my order? Thanks, Sam

Here's my order: 1x BZ-PILS 2x CM-2ROW 1x GP-RICE** (Hulls) 1x TF-MOPA 1x TF-GPRM **Looks like both flaked rice and rice hulls have the same code in the sales book (GP-RICE). I'd like the rice hulls please. Thanks Jeff! -Sam

Can't get Homebrew to feel like like I want...

Just guessing but it could be a wild yeast getting in there at bottling time. To confirm, you can de-gas one of your "watery" beers and take another hydro reading to see if the gravity has changed since you packaged the beer. If the gravity is lower, you know something is getting in there and...

    NNJ/NJ Winter Group Buy

Hope I can get in on this too! 1x CM 2-Row 1x TF Marris Otter 1x TF Golden Promise 1x FB Pilsner Thanks, Sam Scott edit: As for delivery location, Poughkeepsie would be about as far north as I could go.

some pics of my new brew stand

I have the 6" probe but the 2" will work fine too. Either probe will extend far enough into the tee that the flow of wort will pass over it and you'll get a good reading (while recirculating of course). When direct-firing the tun, I have to watch to make sure the mash doesn't stick. If...

    Weldless brew stand.

Not sure about the paint but a piece of cement board (HardieBacker) under your cooler mash tun will protect it from the heat. I made a few batches with mine before I converted a keg to a mash tun... edit: Obviously, I didn't use the middle burner while using the igloo. ;) The cement...

    Weldless brew stand.

I agree with you on the casters... I'm sure you could find a cheaper option. It's just that I purchased these items online and couldn't touch/feel how sturdy the casters were. The last thing I wanted was to have gallons of boiling water/wort topple over because a caster failed so I went with...

how to top crop yeast from carboy

According to Jamil's Yeast Pitching Calculator, you'd need about a 1/2 cup of relatively thin slurry for 5.25 gallons of 1.060 wort. I don't wait around to collect too much so I always make a fresh starter with it (same as Tasty McDole does when he top-crops... he collects a couple/three...

    Weldless brew stand.

I don't know... I'd have to take a look again. From what I can remember, I bought a burner jet from morebeer that threaded into the burner. Actually, I think the jet was too small to thread into the burner so I had to use a reducing bushing. The 90 degree elbow was a brass street elbow I...

    Weldless brew stand.

Definitely strong... the most expensive part of my build were the casters because I got ones that were rated at 400lbs each. One keg filled to the top with water weighs in at about 150 or so lbs. I filled all 3 kegs to the top with cold water and stood on the frame while kind of bouncing up...

    Weldless brew stand.

Kick ass! Nice job Bender! I've since added some switched outlets for the pumps and used "waterproof" boxes/switch covers that I picked up at the home depot for a few bucks. I wired in an extension cord and plug that into a portable GFCI outlet. Here's an old pic before I added a second pump...
