    Help with pumpkin problem

Yes I am letting it settle in primary for 2 weeks and then into secondary. Because we used so much pumpkin it has been 9 days and the sediment is still taking up 1/3 of the fermenter. I used way too much pumkin although I dont think the bottles will have a problem being emptied.

    Help with pumpkin problem

Thank you. That is a bummer:( Looks like it will be extremly dense. That seems to be the trend in my brewing. I will tell ya how it turned out.

    Help with pumpkin problem

I used pumpkin in a can and wanted to really kick it up a notch so I used three times the usual amount. So here sits my primary that has settled for four days and it looks like when I rack to secondary I will loose half to the sediment. I know its not the smartest idea to add more water to...

    Filtering beer without using kegs

The more you rack your beer the cleaner it will be. When I first started I fermented for 7-14 days and then racked into bottling bucket and added priming sugar then bottled. There was a decent amount of sediment in each bottle. As time went by I used the method of first racking in 7 days then...

    dogfish head 60 minute IPA

Has anyone tried DFH's Burton Baton IPA? This one had me at the first sip. It's a 10 % wood aged Imperial IPA. My brew partner got them so I don't know the cost although he said they weren't cheap. This beer has me thinking about conditioning those high % hoppy ones in oak barrels. To me...

What are your thoughts on this?

That's pretty interesting cheesefood! Life is about experiencing new things and why not try some. He definately digs it. I am not jumpin on a plane to Duluth anytime soon. Yet if I am anywhere near there I would look him up and have a glass...and buy a T-Shirt.

    2 gallons Lost

My hat goes off to those of you who brew in doors. After a couple of batches brewed in a day I look around the deck and cant imagine making that mess inside. Especially the 2 gallons that spilled. My wife is understanding yet that would have been a serious mess. The good part of brewing...

    2 gallons Lost

You are right about planning and being prepared. The day started at 10am and three batches later we finished at midnight. No spills this time only smooth brewing. We did pace our drinking to keep a better focus.

    2 gallons Lost

Never brew without having one. The trick is only a few.....a few six pacs!! Well as they say get back in the saddle. If you get knocked down get back up and do it again. So I have three beers lined up to brew today with a friend. "Dear Home Brew Spirit- May today be a spill proof day and...

    2 gallons Lost

I will never forget my 2nd day working in a winery. There was this other new employee and I watched him open the wrong valve. Needless to say its the funniest moment I've had at a job. He had an agitor arm in the valve so he couldnt close it alone. 500 galons hit him with force in about 75...

    Hop Extract

You are right about kegs. They are awesome and the time saved is helpful. I said the same thing when I got my keg system...I did find I missed popping open one of my beers from a bottle. Especially those that I favor which are the Imperials and heavely hopped IPA's. It's easier for me to...

    Good...but not what I expected

I was having the same problem. Two things were going on. My mash tun was the Papazian bucket with holes and I tried to keep the temp close to the 150-154 target. I know now that this worked just not as good as a cooler system. Also the first system with too many lbs of grains would compact...

    Bottle Sanitizing Question...

probably should keep quiet except the fact I have 3 years experience in a large winery. KMS (potassioum metabisulfite) is the major way to clean tanks and equipment except for those really gunked up ball valves and such then they did use household bleach to soak. This came from a 30 year...

    Anyone From

Yes sir walker! I have gotten a friend into this and we are all about hangin out, drinkin, and most importantly improving our beer. I did a brown ale and helles bock in one night alone and the next day my friend and I did two batches of a imperial IPA (with over 15 oz.of hops combined). We...

Sources for reasonably priced kegging equipment?

I get my tanks filled at a welding supply shop. He has 20 # tanks full of co2 for 90 bucks. I have also seen them on ebay (empty of course) for cheaper.

    Anyone From

Hey orlando neighbors. I posted a similar request last year if anyone wanted to get together and do some brewing but the only response I got was from one person who had just started and acted uninterested. I live just minutes from MT.Dora and in a few weeks will be brewing 2-5 times a week...

    ginger chocolate porter

thank you Cheesefood! I am glad you agree. Had to let you know that i opened one of the chocolate ginger beers and still needs more time to carbonate like I prefer. yet it is complex and for the strangest beer to date it is damn drinkable. I wouldnt suggest a pilsner or bud drinker could...
