Argh, I can't figure it out!

Well the usual rule is 1-2-3. One week in the primary (you did 10 days), 2 weeks in a secondary for clearing and beginning conditioning (0), and minimum 3 weeks in the bottle for carbonation and conditioning. So the usual rule is 6 total weeks before the beer is getting good. Additional time...

Argh, I can't figure it out!

Try the next bottle in 2 weeks and see if you can tell adifference. Probably need more conditioning time. I think I saw something last night that stated Browns need more conditioning time.

    Newbie Equipment Question....

It's a good starting point and for $49.99 not a bad price. I would definetly get the 5 gal carboy (glass or better bottle) for a secondary. Makes a major difference in your beer. And only $20.00 more Make sure the kit has a stopper for the primary bucket lid and if you get a carboy...

    storage?

I keep mine in the closet that I ferment in. Once bottled I put them in boxes and keep them in the coolest part of the closet. This time of year usually hanging around 65-69 degrees.

    All-Grain vs Extract Taste

I just tasted my first AG over the weekend and it was very good. I have only done 2 extract kits and then moved to the AG and I did find a very noticeable improvement on the flavor and smoothness of the beer.

    Uh oh...Airlock problem?

Probably will be OK. I usually put vodka or grain alcohol in my airlock, but I have seen others on the board use sanitizer. And congrats!!!

    Kegging Question

What kind of bulkhead fitting works best for this?? I am getting ready to do this.

So, I washed some yeast. Now what?

Or you could drain off the beer and fill with boiled and cooled water and shake it up good and then let sit for 10 min. Then drain and keep the liquid/yeast suspension pouring until you start to see the darker trub start to pour out. I did this about three times and ended up with next to...

    Beginner questions

Glad your getting into this great hobby.:ban: As mentioned before I would use the airlock method rather than risk getting infections/spoilage of your hard work. Some of the web suppliers even sell lids pre-drilled so that you know what size rubber stopper to use for the airlock...

    Recommend a bottle capper

Ditto!! I screwed mine to a 12" X 30" laminated board so I can move it around to suit me and gives a clean smooth surface to put my bottles on after filling and just prior to capping. With a rubber mat under it there is no slipping or movement.

    Bought my tank!

Lucky!! I had a quote for a filled 10 lb tank for $90.00 and when I went in the total was $180.00 + tax. Told them they quoted alot less but they couldn't find the salesman so I just left after waiting for 20 minutes. The only other place in town quoted 20 lb filled for $150.00 so I am...

    Recommend a beginning brewing kit.

I got my deluxe kit from here: http://www.homebrewery.com/beer/beer-gs-deluxe-kit.shtml and have been very happy with the service. I have used everything in this kit and the bench capper seems to be a lot easier to use then the 2 hander ones. Well worth it to get the auto siphon!!! Best...

    Help needed with cooler problem

That is true, but I just fixed it up for AG and only had two brew sessions with it so far.

    Help needed with cooler problem

:( Well this stinks. I was dumping my grains out of my mash cooler and the lid caught on my shoulder and ripped the lid strap out from the inside of the cooler along with a 3" narrow strip from the inside lining of the cooler. What can I use to "glue" this strip back in and seal the section...

    miss's problem

LOL In my line of work and the types of problems that I have to deal with I have to do the "hit you with a 2X4" at times to wake them up.

    miss's problem

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but six(6) beers EVERY night is not good for you. That fact that your wife has complained about it speaks volumes to this being a problem that she does not want to go through. At 6 a night I am afraid that you have gone beyond the enjoyment of the tastes...

    Suggestions for next step

Thanks for the info. Yesterday I let my impatience get the best of me and added the puree and there was an immediate explosion of bubbling right out of the carboy that lasted about 2 min and then settled down. Had to clean up a bit (didnt loose much TG) It smelled good so far. Lesson...

    Lagering Question

I haven't tried this technique from Brewboard.com, but am going to try it. Here is the link and read the whole thread. http://www.brewboard.com/index.php?showtopic=42533&st=0 Sorry don't know how to do the link trick. Sounds like a good alternative for someone like me that doesn't want...

    Suggestions for next step

:) I am doing my first mead (well melomel sp?) from a kit from my LHBS. It starts with 10 lbs honey and then later stated this would be dry so add sugar if wanted. So what I did was get another 5lbs of honey for a total off 15 lbs. The instructions state that after 10 days the airlock...
