    Hops schedule noobie question

Hi, I am trying to put together a recipe for an American IPA, but as I am a newbie to putting together so I don't have the best idea of how hops work together in a recipe. I am shooting for an OG of 1.065 or so, and I have on hand 1lb each of Columbus, Cascade, Fuggles, and Goldings. I really...

Cheapest source for a 7-10 gallon pot

I've also got the winware 40 qt from amazon. I got it for less than $40 shipped, and I can already see that in the future it will be a good HLT.

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

I've got a Kolsch, a Pale Ale and a stout porter in fermenters now, and I'll be making an Irish red tomorrow. Hooray (?) for being unemployed - tuesday brewday!

3 weeks til I need to deliver beer for a wedding

Definitely recommend a hefe - you can bottle it and still go grain to glass in slightly under a month, with kegs it'd be no problem.

    Brewing on the stove top

I brew on my stove top with a 10 gallon stockpot over two burners and get a good rolling boil pretty quickly. I just did a 90 minute boil the other day and even with 8 gallons preboil it handled it like a champ. HOWEVER - it is a major pain to haul the kettle onto the stove after collecting the...

    Midwest Supply v. Northern Brewer

I don't really buy from either. I live close to label peelers - who I think will become one of the big names soon enough. They are located like a mile from LD carlson so they have lower prices generally and the pick things up fresh almost every day. Plus, the owner is a great guy and they are...

    Brew New or Over?

I'm brewing new until I find what I want to brew over. I'm looking for something like 4 recipes to constantly brew and perfect.

Is there a style of beer you DON'T like?

I'm not the biggest fan of wheat beers... though I did just bottle a hefeweizen so it can't be that bad. I've found that since I started brewing I've opened up to tons of different styles that I would have passed on or thought were bad before. I am so fascinated by the whole process that I am...

use a bucket to dry hop?

I'd recommend hops for dry hopping, in my experience buckets don't impart much aroma

    pellet vs whole hops

I think the biggest consideration for buying hops in bulk is the space required. I can comfortably have 4# of pellet hops into my freezer and still use it for things other than hops. I can't imagine how much space leaf hops would take up.

    How cheap can you brew?

I just brewed a 1.063 stout porter that came to $14.25 for 5.5 gallons into the fermenter. I bought the hops by the pound, base malt by the 55 pounds and had some wlp004 yeast slurry that I pitched it on. I also was able to get about a quart of wort that didn't make it into the fermenter that I...

    Secondary Fermentation

For me any style is good for secondary, because I managed to get a hold of several cheap carboys - meaning in order to maintain a strong pipeline I need to rack to secondary in order to free up primary space. Thinking about splitting some batches into two carboys if I need to.

    What are you drinking now?

Bottled a Hefeweizen tonight, and bottled an IPA on the first... but no homebrew. So I am enjoying some Brew Kettle White Rajah.

    10 gallon partial boil batches...

Yeah, I think I'll end up doing 10 gallons of a mild, bitter or kolsch after consideration. That way I can have a few and not run out of bottles really quickly.

    10 gallon partial boil batches...

Well, it will save on space because I wont need a bigger kettle and will save on time since I will be doing one boil for a 10 gallon batch rather than take the runnings, boil, chill, rack to fermenter, and the take the runnings and repeat again. I think I will be able to do a large variety of...

    10 gallon partial boil batches...

I've been searching all of the forums for an answer about this, and nothing I've found as of yet has answered my question very well... Basically, I've got a 13 gallon mash tun and a 10 gallon boil kettle. My idea is to do a partial boil using a very high gravity wort in my boil kettle and...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I managed t get one for $8 shipped from amazon, ignored it for a couple of weeks and today calibrated it. Going to buy a 55# sack of maris otter and probably brew a couple of batches this week.

Out of homebrew so I had a Noble Pils and an Edmund Fitzgerald.

    Paint strainer usage for biab

I did two bags in one pot full volume mash. No sparge, just squeezed the bags and started the boil. I clipped the bags to the pot using binder clips, on opposite sides of the pot.
