    First mead recipe?

Ok can i get some tips on back sweetening? When is the best time to do this once the mead has finished fermenting and to been racked into another vessel? Also what type of sweetener can I use that's non fermentable? Looked at JOAM and it looks too simple and good to be true so I might do 2...

    First mead recipe?

Hey guys! I'm looking to make some mead over the weekend. I would quite like a sweet mead and not a dry one if possible. Does anyone have any recipes for this such as honey quantities etc? I am going to start on a 1 gallon batch so the quantities for this volume? I know I need yeast nutrients...

Tap water or filtered bottle water?

Right, i have just ordered a John Bull traditional English Ale. I'm going to give the campden tablets a go this time, prior to the wort and as mentioned run the water for a while before using it! I shall keep you updated :) thanks for the help!

Tap water or filtered bottle water?

Should i add the campden tablets to the wort or once the wort has been diluted with the tap water? The reverse osmosis method seems like a good method once the minerals have been nailed down. I shall have to have a gander at the brew science forum then, seems like I could learn quite a bit...

Tap water or filtered bottle water?

Well my tap water is quite hard, but it makes not bad tasting beer! I was curious whether the bottled water would improve it further. Not sure I could wrap my head around the science of it all I wouldn't even know where to begin! I shall have to find some good sources to learn from as I want...

Tap water or filtered bottle water?

Hey guys, I just wanted to know what the general consensus was on using tap water vs filtered bottled water. Is there a big improvement of using filtered water or is it just preference? Thanks, Dan

    What's your next brew? Why?

Going to try a honey IPA. Always wanted to try brewing with honey to see if it will add some character, so will see how it goes! :)

Thoughts on putting yeast in fermenter first then pouring wort on top of it

I've always spread the yeast on top and i have done both stir and let it settle. I've had Similar results both times so i can't personally say it would affect it too much (as long as the wort isn't too hot for the yeast) :)

    Cloudy beer

Hey guys, thanks for all the responses i appreciate it has been a while but i thought i would give a quick update! I did a few of things, i chilled my wort quicker than before, and i also used filtered water not my hard tap water! I also used some irish moss, these things have helped...

    Cloudy beer

I am using the coopers fv, it's not bad to be fair! I'm going to try doing another batch within a week or two and will try these things. Yes they are clear at room temperature but after being in the fridge for about 7 days they still come out cloudy! Room temperature is clear, but not perfect...

    Cloudy beer

Hey guys thanks for all the replies! I haven't done any boiling, the kits say to add 2 litres of boiling water then top with cold until it's at 22 degrees Celsius. I have done Cooper lager, a gravity hammer of thor lager and a better brew czech pilsner. I only have the one barrel to brew in at...

    Cloudy beer

Hello! I have recently started brewing beer, admittedly using the kits you can buy as I wanted to practice with then before venturing out. However, I have done about 3 batches, they all taste good but the beer is always cloudy no matter how long I seem to let the bottles stand. I was wondering...
