Dry hopped in a corny and force carbonated! Newbie question!

I dry hop right in my primary (I use buckets). Be sure fermentation is done, then I just toss the hops in a strainer bag from home depot and let it sit for another 5-7days. Then I pull out the bag and I cold crash for a day. If you can't do that, just let it sit for another day or so for any...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

5 weeks in. At 1.006. Tastes delightful.

    First keg

Technically if you are carbing using a CO2 tank, it is considered force carbonation. My guess is that you intend to use the slow and steady method versus the crank and shake... How long and what PSI will depend on two factors; one, what style beer and two, what temp you will be carbing at...

    KPR121's 220v HERMS eBrewery Build

Where did you get your terminal strips/bus bars? I found some at radio shack that are rated for 15 amps at 1100vrms. But not sure how that translates. They also carry neat 8 position jumpers that eliminate the need to make a bunch of jumpers by hand. I found heavier duty terminal strips at...

Just another electric brewery build thread.

Thanks... Just saw you pic on Facebook. Apparently we both know Becky Jacobs? New Berlin here.

Just another electric brewery build thread.

Subscribed. Where abouts in WI? I'm about to start working on my ebuild too, just waiting on panel switches and amp meter.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I was wondering if it wasn't sealed good but by just gently pressing on the lid I can see the levels i the airlock change, and never had an issue with brewing beer. I guess I'm not too worried since I know fermentation is active, just not the violent crazy fermentation most post about.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

My fermentation has been weak. I have had little to no air lock activity. If I swirl my bucket I get some bubbles, but that's it. I know there's fermentation going on in there cause I had that lovely smell and when I opened the lid a bit I could here the fizzing. I am fermenting at about 68...

    Using 120 from 240

Am very close to starting construction of my control panel. Besides the 220 elements I plan on two pumps and also an exhaust fan w/light. All the wiring diagrams I have seen show running every 120v item (PID, ETC) off the same leg of the 240. Wouldn't you want to spread that out, or doesn't it...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Started getting the rhino farts. Came up with this idea. I remembered someone smoking pot in college and exhaling into a paper tube filled with cotton balls and dryer sheets to kill the smoke and smell. I thought the same should work for a stinky fermenter. So this is a toilet paper tube...

    PIDs not by Auber??

I went auber. I don't mind paying more for quality and customer support. I just got my PID and I got the RTD with deluxe cable option. For $9 extra you get the cable encased in SS braid and also get the panel socket. The panel socket was missing two of the ball bearings that lock it in place...

    Aluminum Vs. Steel tank

My 10 pound aluminum weighs considerably less than my 5 pound steel one. Weight is definitely the main benefit. You may want to shop around for a place to fill... $25 seems like a lot to me, even for both tanks at once.

Will it hurt to drink Apfelwein early ?

Twintrades, how did you backsweeten and what did you use? I just made my first batch tonight following Edworts original recipe exactly. I'm not a huge fan of dry wine, so back sweetening may interest me depending on how it turns out.

    Dextrose vs corn syrup

    Thanks Pumbaa!

    Dextrose vs corn syrup

My LHBS carries it, but only in 5 oz packs as priming sugar at $1.25 a piece. I would need 6 of them for the two pounds needed, making them a pricey option. Supplement warehouse has 2 pound package for $2.44. I was just hoping for an easier or cheaper alternative.

    Dextrose vs corn syrup

I'm looking to make some apfelwein but don't want to buy a bunch of small packages of dextrose from LHBS. There is a Heath Hut that may carry it near me, but I was wondering about the possibility of using corn syrup... Since dextrose is corn sugar and corn syrup is liquid corn sugar, is it...

    KPR121's 220v HERMS eBrewery Build

Looks nice. I am following your build cause I am about to bet going on mine... Pretty much everything is ordered, just waiting on deliveries. What are you using for wiring between the elements and the control panel? I went with the same elements. Can't wait to hear how quick they heat.
