    First all-grain was pretty easy...

I'm right in there with you. My first AG was on Saturday and using BeerSmith helped get all the calculations I needed. Now I just need to get a sight glass for the boil kettle, or some way to measure my boil-off. I went too long and ended with 4.5 gallons.....oops, at least now I'll have a...

Don't tell non-brewers to bring beer to a party

Perhaps I should have better explained myself and I apologize for that. I definitely was not trolling for a hate thread, though I definitely got that. I was more trying to insight responses around what people bring to the party. Funny how after 10 pages of responses how people interpret the OP...

Don't tell non-brewers to bring beer to a party

I'm the OP and I wasn't necessarily complaining. I did drink the BMC that was brought and we all had a good time. I was just pointing out the fact that in a great generalization, non-brewers tend to not think of bringing craft brew to a party. I'm more in the category of one of the previous...

You must have failed the bar test.........pity.

Don't tell non-brewers to bring beer to a party

I only started this thread because I thought it was funny. These guys normally drink the craft brews anyway. It must have been a quantity over quality for the big game. :tank: But I definitely made them take the leftovers home. Now if only my pipeline would fill up faster :drunk:

Don't tell non-brewers to bring beer to a party

I about lost it on the "infidels" part......just great. I have a planned event on Friday, I need to go get some local craft for that

Don't tell non-brewers to bring beer to a party

Haha, yeah, or I need to teach them what real beer is! If only I had anything bottled. My pipeline ran dry over the holidays..... I know, sad day. I just got a red ale bottled and a Texas bock in the fermenter yesterday....

Don't tell non-brewers to bring beer to a party

T's exactly what the subject sounds like. I just finished hosting a Super Bowl party (Yeah Giants!!) anyway, I told everyone that it would cover the meat if others brought sides and beer. The only beer we were treated to was Coors light and bud. What the heck! Don't these people appreciate good...

    Batch Size - Post Boil?

That's what's love about beer smith. You can set how much you expect to lose in the mash tun, and boil kettle. When you give it what you want for the batch size, it takes everything into account to give you how much strike and sparge water you will need to compensate. I did this yesterday and...

Why do guys make their first all-grain so complicated?

Reading a lot on here will definitely get you excited! I'll attest to that. I brewed my first all grain yesterday and went simple though. I bought a bock recipe from AHS. It had 2 grains and 1 buttering hop. I've brewed many lagers, so no problems there. The only problem for me was that I got...

    Questions on my 1st lager

    The bane of the brewer........waiting.

    Questions on my 1st lager

I'm sure someone out there will disagree with me, but I've never put any fining agents in my beer post-boil (I use irish moss, but only because I have a huge bag of it, most of the time I forget anyway). I would let it go another 3-4 weeks instead of 2 myself and you'll have a clear beer. Be...

2.5 month primary... do I need to add yeast to bottle?

When I have a long primary and I'm concerned about how much yeast is still in suspension, I just intentionally pick up some extra yeast from the yeast cake when racking to the bottling bucket. It will eventually settle out in the bottle

What are the cheapest reusable commercial beer bottles you know of?

I've used a huge variety of commercial bottles, by far sam adams has the best. I've used some of those bottles for 10+ batches where I've heard after 5-6 batches is when the integrity of the bottle is suspect

    SWMBO's first brew testing/tasting day!

Yeah, it'll be a little while. A friend's dad randomly found hops growing on his land, decided to cultivate them and harvested. So, naturally, I convince him to give them to me. Turns out, it's cascade and magnum, so I'm going to brew a blonde for her first.....so many choices to brew, so little...
