Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Jalapeno Cream Ale

Give it time. It roasts up after a few weeks. Did you add vodka? The space goes into the vodka.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Jalapeno Cream Ale

I roasted & soaked them all, used half for boiling. Kept in the cup then used the rest after secondary. i had such little vodka left in the cup (half a shot) that I added it all to the fermenter anyway. PS: this really *is* one of the best i've made. Mine turned out lighter than intended due...

    big beer blow up

how much headroom did you have? I have a 3gal batch brewing in a 6.5gal fermenter, and now you all have me worried (wheat + honey + wheat yeast)

Operation Clone Lagunita's Undercover Investigation Shutdown Ale

thanks cwheel. good luck w/ your brews. i should probably start paying attention to water properties as well. that could have *a lot* to do with it.

Operation Clone Lagunita's Undercover Investigation Shutdown Ale

So before I do the next batch, here are my observations so far: * The beer is sweet... too sweet though. Either I didn't get good attenuation (probably that's it) or mashed too high. * Didn't carbonate very well. I think this makes it appear sweeter than it is. Those are my two main...

    BYO Adjustable Trellis

hah. ok thanks. makes sense. so do you attach a long pole at the top so that the vine grows straight up? if not, when you let out twine the plant will slink over and start growing up the pole again... i'm sure i'm missing something obvious.

    BYO Adjustable Trellis

I still can't figure this out. Why won't the vine attach to the wooden poles as it grows? I visualize it as the twine coming directly down from the top of a pole, so the vine would attach itself to the pole as well as the vine. Could someone take a picture please? I'd *really* appreciate it...

    Successfully Growing Indoors

Considering how the first year is spent on root growth, if you kept the hops root bound and the bottoms trimmed + well fed, I imagine you could get a decent yield the first year. Not a full yield, but better than nothing.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Jalapeno Cream Ale

So I have this nottingham yeast cake left over from this batch (bottling next week). I really have had good luck w/ this yeast (blond ale, now this one)... it tears through these ales in like 2 days. What are some ideas for pitching onto it? I'm sure there will be some leftover jalapeno taste...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Jalapeno Cream Ale

Here's the recipe I'm brewing tonight. I am using munich instead of vienna. Adjusted the grain a bit as I sometimes get low efficiency. http://hopville.com/brewer/recipes/booherbg Check this out - I'm brewing tonight and there are like 4 tornados touching down in the area. Therefor, this beer...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Jalapeno Cream Ale

i'm brewing this up tomorrow. i just wanted to add one thing. i've been wondering about soaking in vodka vs not soaking in vodka. then today my colleague pointed out that capcasin (the thing that makes peppers hot) is alcohol soluble. So that's why you soak it! So in short, if you soak the...

    Hopslam Clone...

How is the alcohol burn? That's what always amazes me about these high abv beer is how soon they're ready. looks like you've got it down. So what helps make a beer ready earlier? Is it your air infusion? Cold crashing? Why did you wait 48 hours to pitch? Nice work, sounds delicious!

    Successfully Growing Indoors

cidly24, i'm not sure how you mean? LED grow lights certain work as indoor garden lamps. The problem is that the good ones (high output) are expensive. Here's a small one for $135 (90 watts, 1980 lumens). http://www.ledwholesalers.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=310

Someone used munich in place of vienna. how did it turn out? I have lots of munich on hand, it'd be nice to use it.

    Successfully Growing Indoors

If you don't mind not knowing the IBU, that'd be just fine. I'd try to separate out the cascade if you can since you'd want that one for late addition and dry hopping. But worst case you'll get a tasty beer :). I'd be conservative with the hops in case you get more nugget/chinook than you...

Anyone have a good 21st amendment Bitter American Recipe?

Awesome. Do you have a link or a copy? I'm very interested! PS: 21st amendment mentioned that they're coming up with a new hops bill since simcoe is basically out of stock everywhere.

Operation Clone Lagunita's Undercover Investigation Shutdown Ale

Regarding the thick body: Definitely do a high mash. Lagunitas themselves say they do 158-160 mash on their IPA! Wheat is also a big ingredient. They use it in everything. I've got a decent body right now (the UCISDA is pretty thick, too) and I used both flaked wheat and regular wheat. I imagine...

Operation Clone Lagunita's Undercover Investigation Shutdown Ale

When I visited the brewery, they said that sweet after taste is actually their yeast. But then they claim to use normal ale yeast, so I'm assuming it has to do with temperature control and how the yeast throw the off flavors? My clone turned out great, I think, but I didn't add enough priming...

    Successfully Growing Indoors

I'm following your progress, thank you for the updates. I have an idea for my own set up. I have a small back yard but I'm not sure I'm ready for permanent hop planting and the set up of a trellis. I'm also a creative gardener and love a unique project. What are your thoughts about using your...
