    Brewing on Independence Day

Just pitched the yeast onto a 4th of July brew! Felt a real kinship with the founders of America in that soon I'll be enjoying yet another batch of tax-free, home-made, individual and unique brew. They fought for our rights to be our own people and we should be thankful for the little things...

    Dog slobber

I'd say, since it was already alcoholic, let it ride. Might be fine. If not, your lab will be glad to finish the job, I'm sure. It's all I can do to keep my dog out of the room once the fermenter/bottle/bag of ingredients is open; he's a fiend!

    Warning signs of homebrew addiction

Everything is bottled, nothing is fermenting and it's starting to give you a nervous rash.

    Rat Bastards

In a war of conquest you're going to have to move in, mate with and assimilate them. Continue to spread your ideology throughout the generations until all resistance has been eliminated. Total victory.

    Chimay Grande Reserve

Yes, this is a ton of great info! It's going to take me a while to build up to a recipe of this magnitude but I feel that anything Chimay is a worthy goal.

    Chimay Grande Reserve

Anybody got a recipe for an ale similar to the Chimay Grande Reserve (Blue)? A search brings up 500 threads and I'm halfway into a bottle right now so the attention span just isn't there. But what a wonderful ale! Would love to start thinking about a similar recipe if anyone has any ideas.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

This is one of the greatest posts I have ever read.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Shock Top tastes like if you let the dregs of your orange soda sit in the car for a few hours and you took a sip just before all the bubbles were gone but after all the ice had melted... to me.

    Am i the only one

YES! The CO2 and the aroma in the blowoff vessel are practically hallucinogenic! You're transported back to another time and place, when people took pride in their handy-work. I actually made my buddy take a whiff just yesterday. He was hesitant at first but it is an intoxicating phenomena.

Simple question for my first batch

+1 on auto-siphon. My LHBS gave me one with my set up kit and I believe it saved me a lot of hassle and angst that I could have encountered in my first couple of batches. You may not use it forever but it's a handy tool for a beginner. (Being a beginner, I can say this with authority...) And...

    Irish Moss...?

Hi, Gang, Can anyone direct me to some info on Irish Moss, ie: why I should use it... Or shouldn't use it? How much? When? Why? Who is John Galt? Etc...

    Estimated Original Gravity

Right on. I've learned and adapted my process with each batch and now with this final tidbit, I think I can start making some killer brews. The learning process is almost as much fun as drinking the product!! BTW, the brew in question from last night is currently growling away through its...

    Estimated Original Gravity

Revvy: Ok then, none of the instructions I have followed have really placed that much emphasis on mixing in that final step. I haven't ever mixed anywhere close to that amount of time; a situation that will be remedied in future batches. In retrospect (it was late and I was about 4 RDWHAHB's...

    Estimated Original Gravity

jaycount: sort of - I'm eyeballing from a gallon jug that is dedicated to that purpose. Perhaps I need to put some exact amounts into the jug and mark them on the outside somehow. c-rider: haven't tried a calculator program... suppose I should. I guess my big question is: how much of an...

    Estimated Original Gravity

Howdy, Folks, First of all, let me say how informative and enjoyable I have found this forum since I started brewing 2 months ago - you guys (and SWMBO's) are great! So, I brewed my fifth batch tonight. I typically have purchased kits from the LHBS and followed them to instruction. BUT, my...
