Does more time in the fermenter mean less time conditioning?

The title says it all I guess but, does more time in the primary or secondary fermenter mean less time bottle conditioning? I appreciate the beer will need to to carbonate. Just wondering. TFI Friday! :mug:

    Cold crash

Thanks guys. I intended to bottle this weekend, but it clearly hasn't fermented. It will probably be finished in a couple of weeks. I'll go by the FG then cold crash thanks again. Your help is very much appreciated.

    Cold crash

All going well, I'm going to bottle my first proper batch on Saturday. It's a Belgian Abbey Ale. http://www.defalcos.com/virtuemart.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&category_id=105&product_id=1668 If I get the FG I'm after this evening, I could throw it in the fridge...

    Bottling pail

I need a vessel for bottling. I intend to use a 5 gallon water bottle from the dispenser at work. It's grade 7 plastic, but it should be safe for bottling purposes shouldn't it? I hope to have the process complete in an hour or two.

Darn it! Canned Extract boiled for an hour.

How much damage do you think I've done? Is it worth continuing?

    Hi Homebrewers!

I think you should repost this with a more suiting description in the title. It sounds like quite a specialized question. You need some of the beer masters to have a look. Good luck.

    What to brew

I'd suggest going to a local specialty wine/beer store. I have a Specs down the road. Maybe I'm just lucky, but they have a beer guru who really knows his stuff. If you have a similar store near you, go and speak to their guru. Explain your situation and I'm sure s/he will be more than happy to...

Darn it! Canned Extract boiled for an hour.

Thanks guys. I was hoping for a reassuring cuddle. It was LME. I removed it from the burner and gave it a good stir whilst I added it and for a few minutes before reapplying the heat. I should be safe. We're currently looking for a new, larger home. As soon as that is settled out it'll be...

Darn it! Canned Extract boiled for an hour.

I've just figured out I wasn't supposed to boil my Coopers IPA extract for an hour. It didn't give a time on the instructions :( It's certainly turned out darker than I expected. Here's hoping I haven't affected the taste too much. Lesson learned.

Info Required: Bayou Classic SP1 Jet Cooker

I've bought a Bayou Classic SP1 Jet Cooker but the flame spreader (the movable circular disc that should be above the flame http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002913MI/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20) hasn't been placed correctly. It's sitting flush with the end of the nozzle. Does anyone know what...

    Brewing is fun

Because some of the water evaporates, it cools down a lot quicker. The water (or any evaporating fluid for that matter) will pull heat through conduction from anything it's touching (the bottle), to help it get free (vaporize). Drop some room temp water on the back of your hand, you will feel...

    Addition to Coopers IPA

Hi folks, I'd just like my mind put at rest on this one. I asked my LHBS about the recommended extra dextrose to Coopers IPA. They gave me a pound of Corn Syrup Solids to add to the boil and a standard weight (I can't remember the exact weight just now) of dextrose for priming. Does this sound...

    cooling wort

Thanks guys. It's not necessarily the the budget, but available space and keeping SWMBO sweet. She bought me a Mr Beer kit not too long ago, which has now turned into an 11 gallon pot, gas burner, two fermentation vessels, loads of bottles, crates for bottles, etc, etc ...... I fear the wort...

    cooling wort

I'd appreciate a couple of comments on the idea of using ice in milk cartons to cool wort. They would of course be sanitized, and I would suspend them somehow to stop the neck of the milk carton from submerging. Just an idea, what do you guys think?

    Howdy

A Scotsman living in Texas. The wife bought me a Mr Brew kit last month. Managed to make two horrendous batches with it, but I've bought some reasonable equipment , some fresh ingredients and currently brewing a Belgian Abby Ale. I would really like to get decent at this, wish me luck.
