Help me plan my brew setup

I would imagine most of us have been on a similar path; start cheap and upgrade as you go/can. I got to a point where I spent so much on upgrading to what I thought was needed next but really didn't fit my style or needs as a brewer, so I finally started looking at it from that point. If I read...

    Hello from Northern California

The places I lived had electric ranges/ovens. I tapped into that outlet and brewed in the kitchen. One place had an outlet dryer in the garage so I brewed there. I just made a box out of a spa panel and a heavy duty selector switch. It allowed me to keep the main appliance plugged up (range or...

    Hello from Northern California

Welcome from just south of Sacramento. I have family near Santa Rosa. If interested about 240v while being able to move places, it can be done. I moved 3 times before landing here and brewed on 240 each place.

    Counterflow Chiller $75 or trade

Counterflow chiller from NY Homebrew Supply. 1/2 copper tubing, 25 ft long. Used for about 18 months. Garden hose hook-ups for water, staight "plain" lines for wort. Switching gears, going back to IC. Nothing wrong with chiller. Local pick up or you pay shipping from 95624, 15 pounds in a...

Good Belly use for kettle souring.

Just to add, I used 2 shots of goodbelly to kettle sour for over 48hours. I wrapped up my kettle in a sleeping bag and a few days of 100 degree weather to help. Started at 110* and ended at. 98*.

    Need advice converting to electric

I use 2 hot rods in my set up and they work great. Installed a 240v circuit in the garage and, on nice days, brew with the doors open. Extension cords and brewing don't mix well for me.

    What's a good satisfying 3.2 to 4% beer?

@z-bob But this was supposed to be a fun thread about tasty light beers. :mug: The Berliner Weiss looks interesting. How long does it take to sour in the kettle; will overnight at 115° do it? I'm still experimenting. This last time I used 2 goodbelly shots for 36 hours. Started at 120 degrees...

Relatively New (2 years) AG Brewer Considering Using Tap vs RO Water

Went thrust a similar journey a few years ago. City water to RO with treatment, then back to city water. If you use the water report from the city, it may just be an average. I was over-treating it during the winter months. And treating the chlorine was a big game changer. On lazy brew days all...

    Suggestions On Replacing CFC

Jaded makes an 'electric chair' to keep the chiller off the elements. Shoot them a quick message for details and pricing.

    Suggestions On Replacing CFC

I have had experience with most types of chillers. 'Cheaper' immersion chiller, plate chiller, CFC, and finally a Jaded cobra chiller. Without a doubt, the jaded chiller lives up to the hype. Easy to use and clean and works much faster than my other 'cheaper' 50 ft chiller. I was skeptical but...

Looking into a simple 240V electric system - advice?

You may want to look into using a rheostat / potentiometer controlling an SSVR. It was the way I started after the sticker shock of shiny boxes, PID controllers, and SSRs. And I did exactly what ancientmariner suggests and checked out some books on house electrical work. Check stilldragon's...

Can it be Seen as Unprofessional to Brew Beer?

As a teacher, none my students nor their parents know of my homebrew hobby (we are encouraged to share our personal lives to be more relatable). However, my fellow staff know all about it and appreciate when I give them a few bottles. I even just gave my admin a batch to honor her first year as...
