Can you cool down the brew pot in the fridge?

I'm putting the brewpot in the shower which is not too deep, perhaps 2.5 inches of water deep and putting some ice on it, I mention some ice because here in Czech Republic they dont sell ice and I make ice cubes with the tiny freezer I have. and putting some cold wet towels around it fastened...

My first brew, ran into some problems, help

That's what she said! OK so next time I will take longer time to cool it down for sure. The transfer was basically dumping everything to the other bucket, no siphon or anything but this happened 1 hour after pitching.

My first brew, ran into some problems, help

I pitched at such high temp because my rudimentary cooling method was not cooling fast enough: I could probably pitch at 70 f but it will take me 1 hour to cool it down to that temp. What's preferable? Pitching at 86 f after 30 minutes of flame off or pitching at 70 f after 1 hour of flame off?

My first brew, ran into some problems, help

Also, another problem came up: The spigot was still dripping so I transfere the beer to the secondary bucket which in which I placed the rubber o-ring from the spigot on the outside and that seemed to be the solution. So in other words, the recently brewed beer was aerated again. Will this...

My first brew, ran into some problems, help

Thanks, there are many thing I will need to fix for the next batch, in fact, one of the problems is that the bath tub was not deep enough, only about 3 inches deep or less, that's why I wrapped it in some cold towels. Also one question I couldn't find a clear answer at the howtobrew book is...

My first brew, ran into some problems, help

Hello, so I ran into a few problems in my first brew and I wanted to know your opinion. I brewed 2.5 gallons using liquid light malt extract and added cascade hops as instructed by my local beer shop. Everything was OK but it took about 30 minutes to cool it down and once the beer was...

Can you brew great beers with liquid malt extract?

Hi guys, I'm about to start my first batch of beer and I want to create an IPA with flavor similar to Matuska beers, they're Czech, I don't know if you've tried them but they brew mainly IPAs, they're all similar, and taste great. Anyways, went to the brew store and surely they recommended me...

Can you brew a Quadrupel with basic beginner's equipment?

Thanks for your answers, this speaks about the complexity of Quadrupels and no wonder they're my favorite beers, also $4 for a Rochefort 10 is not so bad. So I would say this could be left to the experts and with expert equipment I would say, otherwise not worth wasting all those ingredients...

Can you brew a Quadrupel with basic beginner's equipment?

The question is, can you brew a Quadrupel such as Rochefort 10 or Westvleteren even with this beginner kit that I bought? https://www.brouwland.com/en/our-products/starter-kits/starter-kits-beer/d/brewferm-starter-s-kit-deluxe#.VbZQoPmqqkp Or that would definitely require extra mandatory...

Racking cane, do I need one?

Thanks for your replies, I love the friendly attitude in this forum, of course, great minds think alike! So maybe what I could add to this kit is plastic tubing/hose to connect it to the spigot and down to the bottom of the secondary just in case I want to use the secondary and avoid as much air...

Racking cane, do I need one?

Nice, and one more question, does one always need secondary or I could just be bottling straight from the fermenter? Pros, cons?

Racking cane, do I need one?

Hello, I've been reading about the racking cane all over and realized my brewing equipment doesn't include one, I've also seen other kits that don't include it. I see the fermentation bucket has a valve as well as the bottling bottle has one, is that the reason? This is the brewing...

Complete noob, where do I start?

Hehe, what happens is that I've become really spoiled here, I regularly drink Rochefort 8 or 10 because it costs about $4 and with this hot weather I get plenty of summer ales and IPAs for about $2.5 for half a littler but the truth is that you can buy half litters at the supermarket for $1...

Thanks for the input, what do you think of this guide: http://www.howtobrew.com/equipment.html yeah they have kits online in Czech Republic of course, but I think I'm going to order from Belgium since the kit already comes with a bottling bucket. For the ingredients all of it is available...
