I have recently seen several threads of members asking about how to degas and then ask how to make a wand. Well Im bored and have mastered the art of Paint-shop. :D

Because Im stuck at work. Making a De-gassing wand DIY!!!

Theres a few different methods of making your own with a coat hanger. This is the way I did mine. It gets a nice whirl-pool action going on. As long as someone found it useful. :)

Sooo you know how too much of a good thing is bad? Well its true with vodka too!

LOL but he had his pick of anything at all the parties he went to but never showed up without one of my bottles in hand. Made me feel good to say the least.

Candy cane wine - fermentation slooooow

sounds like the boiling for 50 minutes is meant to boil off some stuff that's potentially bad for the brew. I wouldn't worry about the amount of cane since the recipe calls for 60 or more. I'm pretty pumped to try this!

Sooo you know how too much of a good thing is bad? Well its true with vodka too!

It doesnt taste that bad, My buddy who was home for the holidays from Iraq must have drank 7 bottles himself over the two weeks. I cant taste the vodka with my untrained pallate. For whatever thats worth. I did only use about 350mls of $6 unflavored vodka in a 6 gallon carboy after all.

Used brown sugar/ honey/ and cinnamon sticks in Apfelwein. Getting darker with time?

So I racked 5 gallons of Apfelwein that I had into a 5 gallon carboy and added some steamed cinnamon sticks and some honey mixed with boiling water to the batch. Its been aging for good month and its getting prgressively darker over the weeks. Is it because I used brown sugar as a primary...

Do I have potential bottle bombs?

How about just un capping them and putting empty ballons over the necks? Rather than bleeding the pressure every few days and worrying about forgetting to. Just let the ballon fill, glance at it every once in a while and when the ballon is getting big release the pressure and re apply...

Just tried my first 'sip' of Apfelwein

My brother who's home on leave from the navy tried a sample of a batch I have going now and was literally threatening me to open up the bucket and bottle some for him. When I went to my car today he put an empty Vodka bottle on my seat.

    Very simple bottling question

Im an extreme N00B here but if the bag was filled with C02 wouldnt that signal you still have fermentation occuring and the cider you had already bottled and corked is going to explode? You dont want CO2 production after you have corked, some very basic gas law properties tend to make some...

How does my thought process sound on bottling?

27 Bottles, Check. 30 Corks, Check. Corker, Check 6 gallons of concord that has been hovering at 1.010 for 3 weeks. Cleared and campden tabed (6), left to sit for 3 more days. Degas with drill and handy plastic coat hanger. Steam the corks in K-meta sauna as described by Yooper...

Are 60 yr old carboys worth anything? "CRISA 1942"

Just inspected it on my lunch break at work, it just appears to be dusty from setting around for 40 years. No odor or anything coming from it. I was warned to not use it to store coins, I guess there were several other carboys found in the guys house with about 4 inches of coins in them, When...

Are 60 yr old carboys worth anything? "CRISA 1942"

So My GF's best friend let us have a 5 gal. carboy today. Her grandfather had passed away and she had taken it from his estate when they were cleaning out his things. She has since moved to Hawaii and it has been siting at her parents house ever since. It is stamped with "CRISA 18.9 ltrs...

How do you know when you have an accurate SG when the wine is so carbonated?

So for about 3 weeks the SG of my concord wine has been 1.010. Each time I check the SG I notice a good coat of CO2 bubbles clinging to the sides of the beaker. How do I know if I am taking a accurate SG or if the CO2 bubbles are throwing off my level? Or maybe the extreme carbonation is...
