My new labels - Thanks go to billpa!

Nice labels Ed! ;) You need to replace the Apfelwein with the newer design (sans purity law line). And don't forget the label for the crazy rain ale (the beer isnt crazy...just the guy collecting the rain water...hehe)

How long is too long in primary?

I have a cream ale I brewed a week ago. I was going to rack it to secondary tonight but my family is off for vacation for a week and I have to hurry and pack for the trip. I dont think there is anything bad with leaving it another week but I figured I would ask. TIA, billpa

    Sanitizing a carboy

Just curious...Do I have to fill the whole thing up with sanitizing solution or can I put about 2 gallons in and rock the solution in the carboy? Im using Star San. On a side note, who here recycles their sanitizing solution and what do they keep it in? Thanks in advance, Bill

Glass Carboy as a Conical Fermentor...

That sounds like your glass was tempered iBeer. I dont believe carboys are tempered. Retempering is not possible nor necessary IMHO. Tempering is more or less used to strengthen thinner glass. In regards to your question about the magnet...yes they are only straight but it still might work...

Glass Carboy as a Conical Fermentor...

Going back to the original poster....your glass either shattered because A. it was tempered or B. because it got too hot. Someone else stated that you need to build a damn around the area you are drilling and fill it with water to cool it. Another option is to get an assistant with a spray...

    Noob Mash/sparge questions (partial mash)

One more question. Am I adding grains to the water or water to the grains when I mash in? Should I stir up the mash before I seal it up and let it rest for an hour? Thanks! Bill

    Noob Mash/sparge questions (partial mash)

Im getting ready to do my first batch next week. I have all the ingredients. Im going to do a partial mash with 5 lbs of grain in a 3g cooler. Im a bit confused on the mash/sparge though. Im going to do a batch sparge. I calculated that I will need around 6-6.25 quarts of water for my mash...

    Question aboubt Wyeast Activator Pouch

Thanks for the input. I will make a starter. It seems like only a few more minutes of work.

    Question aboubt Wyeast Activator Pouch

I assumed that I could just pitch it after I broke the inner sac and let it expand. But the instructions say I have to make a starter. Is that necessary? Im brewing an ESB around 5.5% alcohol.

    First partial mash brew...please critique

Actually my first brew period :D Im looking to brew an ESB. Here is my recipe. Güden ESB 8-C Extra Special/Strong Bitter (English Pale Ale) Size: 5 gal Efficiency: 65.0% Attenuation: 74.0% Calories: 193.89 per 12 fl oz Original Gravity: 1.058 (1.048 - 1.060)...

    First Beer Label: "2¢ Copper"

I really like it. I wouldn't go overboard with trying to incorporate an actual penny into the design. This one leaves you to think a bit more without being so literal but thats just my opinion :D It would be cool to see you try a slightly different design and have the rook logo run top to bottom...
