Trying to find re-usable (heavy duty) beer cases

You might be able to find fruit crates that will work. Some are a bit flimsy but I have seen others that are actually pretty nice. Even with the flimsy ones, you might be able to easily beef them up. Just a thought...probably should ask around at your local grocery store. Or even better...if you...

Had an article written about the label I did for olllllo...

Nope thats not me. Its someone that lives close by though (I dont know him personally). I grabbed my 16 month old son for my photo. I told them he was my "assistant brewer". I will try and scan a copy of the actual printed article. I think they have a photo of olllllo's label as well in it. I...

Had an article written about the label I did for olllllo...

Local newspaper came by a few weeks ago to do an article about myself and 2 other homebrewers in the area that had their labels published in the latest BYO contest. Here is a link to the article...

My new lable - Bourbon Barrel Aged Old Ale

I like it! The only things I would do is put a tight drop shadow on Bourbon Barrel or change the color of it to something that is not so close to the background and possibly making the word "Ale" slightly smaller and tighten the kerning (spacing) between the A and the L. It might even look cool...

ESB Recipe - First Partial Mash

I made a partial mash ESB about 8 weeks ago and its starting to taste good! :D I used Maris, Victory, and Special Roast malts to give it a nice bread taste. If this is your first partial mash, I would go with an efficiency of 65%. I think I ended up around 60%. Expect to see your beer clear very...

any good label making programs out there?

I agree...although they are way out of the price range for a novice designer. I have never tried GIMP or that other program but looking at some screenshots, they appear to have a lot of the same tools as Illustrator and Photoshop. So I would definitely go with a free program over buying Pro...

Pitching on to a yeast cake that is highly flocculant

Sounds good. I dont do a full boil so perhaps I will add some water (with same temp as fermentation) to the yeast cake, swirl it around a bit to get it suspended again and then rack the wort in. I will make sure to have a blow-off hose. I suppose it will get rather turbulent?

Pitching on to a yeast cake that is highly flocculant

Im planning on brewing an English style Brown Ale next week. After its done fermenting I would like to brew a Milk Stout and pitch it onto the yeast cake from the Brown Ale. I am going to use White Labs 002 English Ale yeast which is highly flocculant. When I pitch onto the cake, should I make...

    "Brewed" my "first" cider tonight!

I work in Ephrata so I can definitely do that. Have any suggestions for local places in Lancaster?

    "Brewed" my "first" cider tonight!

I have two of the same doggies (sisters) and they are high strung as well. Great dogs though! Is that a 6.5g fermenter cuz the level looks a little low for 5g. I really need to get out to my local orchard and buy some cider to fill up some of these empty carboys!

Test those thermometers before you brew......

You were able to fix the braid getting wet by cooking the entire probe in the oven? Just curious as I have one that has the same problem.

    hello from suburban philadelphia

    Using ice to cool wort?

Just curious...you guys are talking about adding ice to the brew pot after boil or the fermenter?

    Label for my first brew

    Label for my first brew

@ Ed Guden is the first word my son said (he is now 16 months old). He would frequently grab beer bottles out of my hand and put his mouth to them. I would ask him if it was good beer and he would say "Guden". My wife says he is her angel baby so thats why I incorporated the Cupid figure. I...

    Label for my first brew

haha...good point. Labeled bottles will only be for gifts, etc. so I will rarely print them out. When I get my kegerator up and running, I am going to do interchangeable custom labels for the taps which will be less generic looking.

What would you do with a 15g corny?

I could definitely use it as a fermenter as-is (at least I think I could). It would be sweet if I could turn it upside down and (with some modification) use it as a conical :rockin: I suppose that the angle coupled with the fact that it bends back in to accomodate a lid, might not be enough to...

    Label for my first brew

Its still a work in progress but this will probably be my generic label for all my brews and I will just change the type and possibly the color. This is for my first brew, an ESB.
