    Brewing room design

You have my envy on two fronts. Are you planing on using an electric set up to brew inside? If so I'm guessing that you will need to vent the steam anyway. Everything being on casters would be nice as you could move your mill under the same hood.

Fermentation Chamber / Kegerator / Kitchen Table

Just another update of my progress now that the top is stained. Sorry for the lighting and picture quality.

    Mash Tun build question

In theory more bends means more restrictions in the flow rate, but I doubt that it would matter on something this size. I used a replacement spigot for a bottling bucket as the out valve. The outer diameter of the T fitting just so happens to fit perfectly with the inside diameter of the spigot...

How bad of an idea is this? PVC for burner leg extensions

Not saying it doesn't work, but... That looks like a bayou classic 60,000BTU burner. If it is I have the same one with tapered legs. Is this We're Sorry an error occured that prevented this page from being displayed the conduit you used? My concern would be when dropping weight onto the burner...

Fermentation Chamber / Kegerator / Kitchen Table

Luckily I started this as one set of roommates was moving out, meaning they didn't care what I did. So, the new roommates moving in was contingent upon me leaving this in the living room. That and when this is done I think I could wind an award for best college apartment. :ban: Yep I have...

Fermentation Chamber / Kegerator / Kitchen Table

Just a progress update after finishing the trim on the top section. 1) Full view of the build so far. 2) Closer view of tap box and shelves. 3) Closer view of trim on tap box. 4) View from above, the set in space will be filled with my collection of bottle caps and covered with resin. 5) Trim...

    Sanke Fermentation Vessel

Why not just cut a hole and use a replacement lid for a corny keg?

    Mash Tun - Cooler Type

I used a large rectangular cooler I got from Wal-Mart. I chose it because I wanted to reduce pressure on the grain bed(why you never see a tall mash tun in a commercial brewery), but honestly I seriously doubt it matters. I replace the drain fitting with a replacement tap for a bottling bucket...

    hybrid electric brew kettle

I was thinking the same thing, granted if I have a SWMBO by then I'll have to make an argument that the laundry room is actually a brew room that hasn't had ventilation installed yet.:mug:

Who here has made a home brew with maple syrup? Advice? Lessons learned?

Very true. My Family has a farm with maple trees in Virginia that a family friend taps each year and gives us maple syrup as a thank you. I had good results with about 12oz of grade B for 5 gal of brown ale added to the wort after flame out. I did not cold crash all the bottles as I wanted to...

    captain over kill stikes again!

Haha! I bet it will drop the wort temperature quickly with all that surface area.

    Perfect! Thank you.

    hybrid electric brew kettle

Can anyone else speak to this? I want to say I have heard on a few brew tours that they avoid direct firing for a steam jacket, because a concentrated heat source will caramelize some of the fermentation darkening the wort. Obviously this would only matter for lighter beers, but I don't want to...

    Mini Keg

Hmm... well here is the non-branded Heineken style keg and here is the CO2 charger and dispenser. I don't know why it wouldn't be portable?

    Mini Keg

My local home brew shop sells all this Party Keg Systems. However when I asked about it, the guy said having the set up and planing on reusing it will cost you the same as just getting a corny in the long run. I believe that was because this Party Keg Systems was made of aluminum and would need...

Fermentation Chamber / Kegerator / Kitchen Table

Yep I cut myself twice on that metal flashing/tape before I had the epiphany to put on gloves.

Fermentation Chamber / Kegerator / Kitchen Table

Most current picture. Originally I started with a dorm refrigerator that I wanted to fit a carboy in, so I could ferment a lager. After changing my mind may times it snowballed into what it is now. I have been working on building an insulated cabinet that is big enough to hold multiple...

bending freon lines back in mini fridge tips and tricks

When I bent mine a gradual arch was the best. The one place where I did start to over bend, I saw it starting to kink on the inside of the arch and stopped. A 3-4" diameter piece of pipe will make a good jig, to prevent over bending.

    Lid for keggle

When I cut mine I left a lip so I could use a regular pot lid. Then I bought a cheap wok with a 13" lid and it worked out nicely, plus it is glass so I can look down into the kettle.
