    Dry Hopping

DeafSmith got it right. I just gently rotate or nutate the carboy by grabbing the neck of it. Some part of the carboy is always in contact with the floor. It doesn't take much for it to work. I mean I am seriously only rotating for 1-2 seconds. It basically just puts a little ripple across...

    Dry Hopping

Swirling and whirlpooling are 2 different things. Whirlpooling will group sediment up in the middle on the bottom, usually done in the brew kettle before racking to the fermentation vessel. When dealing with dry hopping I don't shake the carboy. I gently rotate the carboy just enough to...

    Time Fermenting Before Kegging

Too true revvy. I really need to clarify when I respond to these threads. My fermentations are usually done after a week and a half or so, maybe two at the most, but I leave my beer in the primary for a total of a month for fermentation AND aging (if that is what you want to call it).

    Time Fermenting Before Kegging

if you add priming sugar to your keg to carb it natural search some threads here to see how much to add. It is less than the amount you would need to bottle the beer. Just something to think about.

    Time Fermenting Before Kegging

I stopped using secondaries a while back. 1 month in primary before I keg. Then I use the set it and forget it method to force carb. turn the CO2 on my serving pressure (12 psi) and wait about 3 weeks.

    Dry Hopping

Leaf-pellet-bag-no bag........I have read enough on here and there are positive opinions with all of the options. You might try different ways to find what works for you. I don't think you can screw it up with those options. I personally dry hop with pellets in the primary with no bag. I...

shake carboy to settle dry hops?

I am going to go ahead and agree with fcwegnm0b on this one. I dry hop in the primary with pellet hops. I just toss them in with no bag. I swirl the carboy after a few days and the "hop goo" on top breaks up and falls to the bottom. Takes several days of swirling to get a majority of it, but...

    California Common

Got one fermenting now. First try at the style. Used Northern Brewer Hops. Looking forward to trying it out. I have no idea what to expect.

    Dry hop in primary??

I dry hop in the primary. Saves time and effort of cleaning more stuff. If I noticed a major difference I would use a secondary, but I don't so I just use the primary. With 3 young kids my time is golden, so the less I have to clean stuff and less time racking beer to a secondary the happier...

    Favorite Extract Kit/Recipe

I have to give a shout out to my LHBS.......High Gravity. I have brewed a majority of the kits they offer and they have all been amazing. They seem to have more steeping grains then most other places I have bought kits from and I think it helps to add more flavor to the end product. Quality...

    Sierra nevada torpedo clone

Nice....report back if you do the torpedo clone from AHS. From some post I saw it sounded like the AHS clone didn't use any citra hops which is what is supposed to set the torpedo apart, but I have not got that one from AHS, so I cannot confirm nor deny those alligations. Regardless I am...

    Sierra nevada torpedo clone

That looks great. I am betting that version will be closer than mine for sure. I saw it but chose to do my own thing because I like doing full boils, I try to keep my DME/LME and hop amounts in rounded numbers (just easier to buy and use all of it), but those different procedures and the...

    Sierra nevada torpedo clone

Funny you ask.....I just tapped this keg a few days ago. I was wanting to take a pic of my beer and an actual torpedo and then expalin my difference. I will still do that in a few days, but I'll give you my quick thoughts on it. My beer is not torpedo, but it is fantastic. I don't think it...

HELP! 1cm of 'Crap' at the bottom of my bottled beer (3rd batch)

Just to add to several previous posts.....I leave my beers in the primary for at least a month. Then I bottle condition, or keg condition for another 3 weeks. I kept noticing that the bottles I was drinking at the last of the batch were much better than the ones I opened early. Same with the...

    Is it blow off time?

I have asked the question before. No real need to change the water or the blow off line that has gotten yeast in it from what some of the experts tell me.

    Dry hopping and Cold crashing

Cold crashing will help settle them. Also, when I dry hop with pellets I swirl my better bottle several times throughout the dry hopping week. This helps to break them up off the surface and sends them to the bottom. By the end of the dry hopping week most if not all the hops are on the bottom.
