High Gravity Beer / # of packs to pitch

Hmm... the owner of my LHBS sold me a Belgian Tripel LME that came with a packet of Cooper's yeast. He didn't say anything about having to buy more packets. If the OG is expected to be around 1.076, should I be adding another packet?

    Problems hitting starting gravity

I'm reading a lot on here about the problems of pitching the yeast if the temperature is too high (e.g. over 80*F). Is there any harm in pitching the yeast if it's too cold (e.g. 50 - 60*F)?

    Bottled my first homebrew!

Ahh... Yeah I had to take the whole lid off my beginner's bucket!

    Bottled my first homebrew!

Newbie question! How are you supposed to take a hydrometer reading without putting the hydrometer into the fermenter? I was planning on sanitizing the hydrometer (the 'bobber') and placing it into the wort after 6 days to start the measurements before putting it into the secondary! How do you...

First batch of brew is a hit!

Question to the OP: I'm also making my first batch with Cooper's Lager kit and when I took a hydrometer reading I tried tasting the beer. It tasted... weird. Not undrinkable, and it tasted like beer, but something seemed off about it. When I look for reviews on the internet I found a couple of...

    Cooper's Starter Kit question

Hmm... So I'm on day 12 and so far there are a couple of things I have noticed: 1. Keeping the temperature consistent has been very challenging! We've had some very hot days here in Montreal and the wort's temperature has been fluctuating from around 24* C (75*F) to 27*C (81*F)! Since this...

    Cooper's Starter Kit question

Hmm... okay. Looks like I'm going to have to look into getting myself a bottling bucket. I did some searching online and found a store that sells brewing supplies relatively nearby. I'll probably pick up the bucket as well as some ingredients to start experimenting :). Hopefully, whatever...

    First Brew Attempt

I'm using the same setup as Tossie and am in day 4 of fermentation of Cooper's Lager. I used the same ingredients and everything! My wort looks almost exactly the same as Tossie's day 4 photos. But I'm a bit confused after reading through these forums. The instructions for the kit say to wait...

    Cooper's Starter Kit question

Hi guys! Another newbie here :). My dad got me a Cooper's DIY Beer kit last weekend as I have never brewed beer before but am extremely intrigued by the hobby :). I am now on day 3 of primary fermentation and things seem to be going great. According to the instructions, it says to bottle...
